Israel als Schurkenstaat 108

Internet Activism - a fun and productive experience

I'd like to share with you the experience of our Bathrobes Brigade last night.

IThursday evening just after six. In the office of a Volunteer organisation in Amsterdam a group of women gets together for an evening of internet activism.

But first we need to have diner cause we just came from our jobs and we are hungry! We share the latest news on Israels military order to deport Palestinians without legal permission from the Westbank, we talk about the Boycott Israel actions at the supermarkets and we discuss the best ways to promote the Stolen Beauty Campaign.

Who are we?

We are the Bathrobes Brigade. Young, active and morally conscious women who do not want to support companies that profit from the illegal occupation of Palestine.
We have been protesting Ahava dead sea beauty products since September 2009. Women (and sometimes men) dressed in bathrobes with pink towels on their heads, informing the public about the ugly truth of Ahava products, made in an illegal settlement, with stolen natural resources and sold as Made in Israel.

Tonight we are going to promote the Stolen Beauty Campaign on the internet. We have enough computers and laptops to get started. Each one of us focusses on a particular task. Geeske is writing e-mails to Parlamentarians, Christine is working on our Facebook page, Merijn gets the word out via Twitter (and we are all retweeting her tweets!)
Others are working on letters to Women Magazines to inform them about Ahava and ask them not to publish advertisements for their products.
One of the pharmacies that sells Ahava will receive an email with information about the Company and a request to remove this product from their shop.
We visit many Beauty Blogs and websites and leave messages on forums and discussion pages.

There is wine, chocolate, much laughing and sharing of random beauty advices from the different websites.

Activism doesn't have to be only serious business. It can be quite fun actually! Try it! Invite some activist friends and do some internet activism yourselves!
