Hoe snel de wereld kan veranderen blijkt onder andere uit het opzienbarende boek The Grand Chessboard: American Primacy and Its Geostrategic Imperatives (1997), geschreven door Zbigniew Brzezinski, de National Security Adviser van president Jimmy Carter en geopolitiek adviseur van president Barack Obama. Slechts een kwarteeuw geleden beweerde Brzezinski met grote stelligheid dat:
America stands supreme in the four decisive domains of global power: militarily, it has an unmatched global reach; economically, it remains the main locomotive of global growth, even if challenged in some aspects by Japan and Germany (neither of which enjoys the other attributes of global might); technologically, it retains the overall lead in the cutting-edge areas of innovation; and culturally, despite some crassness (banaliteit. svh), it enjoys an appeal that is unrivaled, especially among the world’s youth — all of which gives the United States a political clout (slagkracht. svh) that no other state comes close to matching. It is the combination of all four that makes America the only comprehensive global superpower.
Alleen al gezien het feit dat de VS als ‘veelomvattende supermacht’ sinds 1945 geen enkele oorlog heeft gewonnen is voldoende om te beseffen dat hier sprake is van een gevaarlijke overschatting die alleen maar een bedreiging van de wereldvrede kan betekenen. Immers, 'hooghartigheid gaat vooraf aan ellende, hoogmoed komt voor de val,’ zoals de Godvrezende Amerikanen weten. Opvallend genoeg zijn het niet de westerse politici en pers die uit ervaring of studie weten hoe waar deze wijsheid is, maar juist hoge militairen. Eén van hen is de alom gerespecteerde Amerikaanse oud-kolonel en emeritus hoogleraar, Andrew J. Bacevich, die in zijn in 2016 verschenen boek America’s War For The Greater Middle East erop wees dat:
the Cold War's happy outcome (at least from an American point of view) came with a distinct downside for the U.S. national security apparatus. Among other things, it rendered the paradox underlying postwar U.S. military policy — energetically preparing for global war in order to prevent it — obsolete. In doing so, it brought the armed services and their various clients face to face with a crisis of the first order. With the likelihood of World War III subsiding to somewhere between remote and infinitesimal — with the overarching purpose for which the postwar U.S. military establishment had been created thereby fulfilled — what exactly did that establishment and all of its ancillary agencies, institutes, collaborators, and profit-making auxiliaries exist to do?
The Pentagon wasted no time in providing an answer to that question. Rather than keeping the peace, it declared, the key’ tot het behouden van de macht was 'to ‘shape’ the global order. Shaping now became the military's primary job. Back in 1992, the Defense Planning Guidance drafted under the aegis of Paul Wolfowitz had spelled out this argument in detail. met als gevolg dat na de ontbinding van het Warschau-Pact het aantal NAVO-lidstaten verdubbelde, niet omdat de positie van het Westen veel meer bedreigd werd dan tijdens de eerste Koude Oorlog het geval zou zijn geweest, maar om te voorkomen dat de ontelbare miljarden aan het militair-industrieel complex zouden verminderen. Inmiddels waren miljoenen burgers en militairen afhankelijk geworden van deze vorstelijke staatssubsidies.
Eurasia is home to most of the world's politically assertive and dynamic states. All the historical pretenders to global power originated in Eurasia. The world's most populous aspirants to regional hegemony, China and India, are in Eurasia, as are all the potential political or economic challengers to American primacy. After the United States, the next six largest economies and military spenders are there, as are all but one of the world's overt nuclear powers, and all but one of the covert ones. Eurasia accounts for 75 percent of the world's population, 60 percent of its GNP, and 75 percent of its energy resources. Collectively, Eurasia's potential power overshadows even America’s.
Eurasia is the world's axial supercontinent. A power that dominated Eurasia would exercise decisive influence over two of the world's three most economically productive regions, Western Europe and East Asia. A glance at the map also suggests that a country dominant in Eurasia would almost automatically control the Middle East and Africa. With Eurasia now serving as the decisive geopolitical chessboard, it no longer suffices to fashion one policy for Europe and another for Asia. What happens with the distribution of power on the Eurasian landmass will be of decisive importance to America's global primacy and historical legacy.

Het Kroatische Euro-parlementslid Mislav Kolakusic sloeg dan ook de spijker op de kop toen hij voorjaar 2022 publiekelijk verklaarde dat ‘Het buitenlands-, defensie- en veiligheidsbeleid van de EU van vandaag kan in één zin worden beschreven. De Europese Unie werd de 51e federale staat van de Verenigde Staten, maar dan zonder stemrecht.’
De 'blauwdruk' van PNAC ondersteunde een eerder beleidsrapport, geschreven door ondermeer de vooraanstaande Amerikaanse neoconservatief Paul Wolfowitz, telg uit een joods Poolse immigrantenfamilie, en oud-staatssecretaris van Defensie en voormalig president van de Wereldbank. Daarin wordt gesteld dat de VS ‘must… discourage advanced industrial nations from challenging our leadership or even aspiring to a larger regional or global role.' In het kader daarvan 'Breaking Russia has become an objective’ voor de Obama/Biden regering, aldus in 2015 de bekendste westerse geopolitieke deskundige dr. Henry Kissinger. Het spreekt voor zich dat Europa bij een totale chaos aan zijn oostgrens geen enkel belang heeft, niet alleen omdat dit tot een nieuwe stroom vluchtelingen zal leiden, maar tevens tot de mogelijkheid van een nucleaire holocaust. Desondanks blijft de NAVO, met steun van de Europese parlementen, en de alles behalve democratische Europese Unie een conflict met de Russische Federatie uitlokken, daarbij gesteund door mainstream-opiniemakers als mijn oude vriend Geert Mak die volgens eigen zeggen een ‘geheime liefde’ voor de VS koestert. Wij leven in historische tijden. Mocht de mensheid over een eeuw nog bestaan dan zullen onze rampzalige jaren nog steeds onderwerp van gesprek zijn, en zullen historici zich blijven afvragen hoe het kon dat Europa, net als voorafgaand aan de Eerste Wereldoorlog, slaapwandelend de afgrond in donderde. Zowel de Europese politici als pers zijn immers vandaag de dag druk doende de Amerikaanse hegemonie veilig te stellen, terwijl ook zij weten dat de op gang gebrachte 'Revolution in Military Affairs' door het neoconservatieve PNAC was voorgesteld. Daaronder behoort nu ook het arsenaal van ‘US mini nuclear bombs,’ dat volgens het Britse dagblad The Times in 2016:

Afgezien van de voortdurende Amerikaanse oorlog komt hier nog een ander element bij, te weten de wederzijdse haat tussen de Democratische- en Republikeinse Partij. Indien die blijft voortduren leidt dit onvermijdelijk tot binnenlandse onbestuurbaarheid, en in het extreemste geval tot een nieuwe burgeroorlog tussen de macht en de machtelozen als gevolg van de dieper wordende kloof tussen arm en rijk in het zogenaamd ‘rijkste land ter wereld,’ waar volgens de officiële cijfers van juni 2021 ‘The wealthiest 1% of Americans controlled about $41.52 trillion in the first quarter, according to Federal Reserve data released Monday. De toenemende onderlinge spanningen hebben er geleid tot de militarisering van de politie, en het verder inperken van de burgerrechten. De Amerikaanse elite houdt er rekening mee dat de huidige neoliberale ontwikkeling uitloopt op massale maatschappelijke onlusten nu ook de middenklasse steeds meer verarmt, waardoor de geglobaliseerde belangen van Washington en Wall Street in het gedrang komen. Vandaar ook de noodzaak van een externe dreiging zodat de almaar verminderende interne cohesie kan worden gestopt. Hetzelfde geldt voor de elite, geconcentreerd in het Brussel van de EU en de NAVO. De uitgelokte oorlog in Oekraïne was voor de Verenigde Staten een godsgeschenk. Oorlog beperkt tot Europa dat met een kadaverdiscipline achter Washington en Wall Street is gaan staan, in een poging een regime-change in Moskou te forceren. Opnieuw deelt Europa de kosten, is er geen sprake van dode of zwaar verminkte Amerikaanse militairen, en bloeit het militair-industrieel complex weer op na de gedwongen beëindiging van alle mislukte oorlogen in het Midden Oosten, die de bevolking aldaar in chaos heeft achtergelaten. De huidige oorlog kost weliswaar wederom miljarden, maar dit wordt allemaal inflatoir gefinancierd met leningen, zodat de banken en de gefortuneerden nog rijker kunnen worden. Enkele actuele cijfers:

Hoewel de mainstream-opiniemakers van de commerciële pers en de westerse politici dit alles doorgaans verzwijgen of het niet eens weten, kunnen de spreekbuizen van de macht toch niet altijd hun ‘masters’ blijven prijzen. Een schoolvoorbeeld van een corrupte journalist die gedwongen wordt een tipje van de sluiter op te lichten, is de door Nederlandse journalisten zo bewonderde Thomas Friedman, ook wel de Empire’s Messenger genoemd, die in zijn New York Times-column van 22 mei 2022 onder de kop ‘My Lunch With President Biden’ eerst de president uitbundig prijst als een groot staatsman, die:
just put NATO together, Europe together and the whole Western alliance together — stretching from Canada up to Finland and all the way to Japan — to help Ukraine protect its fledgling democracy from Vladimir Putin’s fascist assault.
In doing so, he has enabled Ukraine to inflict significant losses on Russia’s invading army, thanks to a rapid deployment of U.S. and NATO trainers and massive transfers of precision weapons. And not a single American soldier was lost.
It has been the best performance of alliance management and consolidation since another president whom I covered and admired — who also was said to be incapable of putting two sentences together: George H.W. Bush. Bush helped manage the collapse of the Soviet Union and the reunification of Germany, without firing a shot or the loss of a single American life.

Alas, though, I left our lunch with a full stomach but a heavy heart.
Biden didn’t say it in so many words, but he didn’t have to. I could hear it between the lines: He’s worried that while he has reunited the West, he may not be able to reunite America.
It’s clearly his priority, above any Build Back Better provision. And he knows that’s why he was elected — a majority of Americans worried that the country was coming apart at the seams and that this old war horse called Biden, with his bipartisan instincts, was the best person to knit us back together. It’s the reason he decided to run in the first place, because he knows that without some basic unity of purpose and willingness to compromise, nothing else is possible.
But with every passing day, every mass shooting, every racist dog whistle, every defund-the-police initiative, every nation-sundering Supreme Court ruling, every speaker run off a campus, every bogus claim of election fraud, I wonder if he can bring us back together. I wonder if it’s too late.
I fear that we’re going to break something very valuable very soon. And once we break it, it will be gone — and we may never be able to get it back.
Zelfs Friedman, de spreekbuis van de elite waarschuwt de Amerikanen:
We are staring into that abyss right now. Because it is one thing to elect Donald Trump and pro-Trump candidates who want to restrict immigration, ban abortions, slash corporate taxes, pump more oil, curb sex education in schools and liberate citizens from mask mandates in a pandemic. Those are policies where there can be legitimate disagreement, which is the stuff of politics…
In short, we are seeing a national movement that is telling us publicly and loudly: WE WILL GO THERE.
And that terrifies me because: I HAVE BEEN THERE.
My formative experience in journalism was watching Lebanese politicians go there in the late 1970s and plunge their frail democracy into protracted civil war. So don’t tell me that it can’t happen here.
Maar in zijn simplistische zwart/wit voorstelling van zaken, zo kenmerkend voor de mainstream-media, komt Friedman niet verder dan Trump de schuld te geven. Dat doet Thomas als volgt:

Biden cannot answer that question. Because WE cannot answer that question.
Biden is not blameless in this dilemma, nor is the Democratic Party — particularly its far-left wing. Under pressure to revive the economy, and facing big-ticket demands from the far left, Biden pursued expansive spending for too long. House Democrats also sullied (besmeuren. svh) one of Biden’s most important bipartisan achievements — a giant infrastructure bill — by making it hostage to other excessive spending demands. The far left also saddled Biden and every Democratic candidate with radical notions like ‘defund the police’ — an insane mantra that would have most harmed the Black and Hispanic base of the Democratic Party had it been implemented.
To defeat Trumpism we need only, say, 10 percent of Republicans to abandon their party and join with a center-left Biden, which is what he was elected to be and still is at heart. But we may not be able to get even 1 percent of Republicans to shift if far-left Democrats are seen as defining the party’s future.
And that is why I left my lunch with the president with a full stomach but a heavy heart.

Met andere woorden: zolang de ‘uiterst linkse Democraten’ -- te vergelijken met PVDA-kamerleden die ook in de VS de deregulering en privatisering accepteerden -- hun invloed blijven uitoefenen, (wat normaal zou moeten zijn in een democratie) zullen de extreem rechtsen niet naar Biden overlopen, en zal het conflict tussen rijk en arm in de Amerikaanse klassenmaatschappij op grootscheeps geweld uitlopen, aldus het ‘zwaarmoedige hart’ van de reactionaire Imperial Messenger, die een groot voorstander was van de desastreuze illegale agressieoorlog tegen Irak. Hoewel Geert Mak vol lof is over Friedman omdat Thomas een ‘man’ zou zijn ‘die altijd wel een gat ziet om een probleem op te lossen,’ zegt dit natuurlijk meer over mijn oude vriend dan over Friedman. Hoe dan ook, feit blijft dat een groot deel van Europa zich door de hoogbejaarde Biden en het bellicose Pentagon op sleeptouw heeft laten nemen, waardoor de oorlog kan eindigen ‘not about the freedom of Ukraine, which has been undertaken with great cohesion by NATO, but against Russia itself,’ zo waarschuwde Henry Kissinger in mei 2020 de westerse elite, die aanwezig was bij één van de bijeenkomsten van het World Economic Forum in Davos.
Kissinger’s plea not to back Russia into a corner — or, worse, ‘into a permanent alliance with China’ — has received some supporting echoes from other world leaders. Both Italy and Hungary have urged an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. The Pope has praised Turkey’s efforts to find a diplomatic settlement to the war.

Kissinger’s standpunt wordt door de meeste westerse politici genegeerd. Kennelijk komt voor de meesten van hen een Derde Wereldoorlog niet ongelegen, gezien het almaar dalende vertrouwen van de bevolking in de huidige tweede garnituur politici en pers, die gedwee de dictaten van de VS uitvoeren. Bovendien verkeert het Westen in een systeem-crisis die ingrijpende veranderingen noodzaken en op groot verzet zullen stuiten. De slaafse houding van de Europese politici is vooral zo gevaarlijk omdat het Amerikaans Imperium steeds verder afbrokkelt, zoals ook blijkt uit het feit dat de VS alle oorlogen na 1945 heeft verloren, behalve dan de oorlog tegen Grenada, met een bevolking van iets meer dan 112.000 inwoners het op tien na kleinste land ter wereld, die 196 internationaal erkende onafhankelijke staten kent.
