Dear stan van houcke,    Last week, petitions with 54,000+ names were delivered to Facebook offices in 17 cities around the world with one simple message: Facebook, we need to talk — and you're not letting us.   The Israeli government, and some of its supporters, are asking Facebook to add “Zionist” as a protected category in its hate speech policy, reducing the term "Zionist" to a proxy word for "Jew" or "Jewish.”   A broad, global coalition is demanding that Facebook NOT move forward with this decision and instead, commit to protecting political debate, breaking down barriers between our communities online, and supporting Palestinian liberation.

Cooperating with the Israeli government's request undermines efforts to dismantle antisemitism, deprives Palestinians of a crucial venue for expressing our political viewpoints to the world, and helps the Israeli government avoid accountability for its violations of Palestinian human rights.
