Onzichtbare Kinderen

De New York Times bericht over 'onzichtbare' kinderen: 'Unicef Warns of the Increased Vulnerability of Poor Children. Hundreds of millions of children - orphans, the homeless, child brides, soldiers and refugees among them - suffer from extreme forms of discrimination and exploitation that often are not addressed by mainstream development programs, according to a report released yesterday by the United Nations Children's Fund, known as Unicef.
"Children in these very specific situations need a light shined on them and on the obstacles that prevent them from benefiting from development in general," Elizabeth Gibbons, chief of global policy for Unicef, said in an interview. Right from birth, more than 50 million children a year - over half the children born in all developing countries, except China - are not registered or provided with a legal identity, a missing link that can make it difficult later in life for them to get a job, a passport, a bank account or the opportunity to exercise the right to vote, the report says.'
