Ukraine: Anti-Putin protests with Nazi symbols

The upheavals in Ukraine have seen a boost in support for far-right groups. They now want their share of the political spoils.

Many opponents of ousted President Viktor Yanukovychsee nationalist paramilitary groups as heroes of the revolution. They have links to the Svoboda party, which holds five senior positions in the new government, including Vice Prime Minister. Other extremists belong to the Right Sector party, whose leader is now deputy minister for national security. Both parties are moderate in their public statements – but have a past history of racist ideologies and anti-Semitism.
