Dear friends,
Residents of Khan al-Ahmar have been ordered to destroy their own homes tomorrow.
If they refuse, Israeli bulldozers will do it for them, and residents will be forcibly moved.
Destroying the village is heartbreaking. And it's a war crime, indictable in the International Criminal Court.
We have to treat this as our last chance to save Khan al-Ahmar. And our best shot is to put as much pressure as possible on COGAT (Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories) - the state agency that directly implements and administers the occupation.
Khan al-Ahmar is not just a humanitarian crisis, it’s a political one.
Israel wants to destroy the village to expand two major illegal settlements - splitting the West Bank in two.
It’s horrifying and enraging - and it’s a war crime under the Geneva Convention.
And what makes it worse is that this devastating brutality is just part of a larger Israeli plan for the West Bank. Successive Israeli governments, without any meaningful consequence, have openly seized as much land in the West Bank as possible.
Even when "peace-makers" have led Israeli or US governments, Israel has continued to corral the West Bank into Jewish-only settlements, roads, and infrastructure. What is happening to Khan al-Ahmar is part of a larger story we know all too well.
Today, the only option left is to make as much noise as we possibly can.
