Cartoon: Shell's deadliest crude
Here's a video I did in collaboration with a group that is fighting to protect the Arctic, the Alaska Wilderness League. We're trying to draw attention to the fact that Shell is going to make another attempt at drilling in the impossibly beautiful and fragile Arctic. But Shell must know what they're doing, right? Um, not quite. They ran a drill rig onto the rocks, (which I didn't even know could be done), ran another exploration boat onto some other rocks, had a fire break out in another case and, um, they want to try this all again.
I'm sure it'll all go just fine now, right? Shell is trying to prove that they can do this thing and that the Obama administration should let them have at it. Take a look at the animation and let me know if you're ready to turn over the Arctic to Shell.
And by the way, this week I'm hosting Satire Fest here in San Francisco. Most of the Daily Kos cartoonists will be here, so come on out and say hello. (Tom Tomorrow, Keith Knight, Jen Sorensen, Matt Wuerker . . .) You can see presentations and draw-offs in the theater, check out a Cartoon Death Match or take a sunset cruise on San Francisco Bay with a whole slew of cartoonists and satirists of all stripes.
Hope you can make it, I'd love to meet you! I'll be back next week, exhausted but ready to cartoon again. Thanks.
