WASHINGTON -- Eighty-five percent of the Americans believe that the country is on the wrong track, according to a new poll.
The survey, released by Time magazine and the Rockefeller Foundation Thursday, shows that among blacks and Latinos, the dissatisfaction levels are 96 percent and 88 percent, respectively.
A majority (78 percent) say there is more risk to their and their family's financial future than in the past, and they rely more on their friends and family for financial support.
More than one-fifth (22 percent) say they have had to borrow money from a friend or relative to meet their expenses.
The June 19-29 survey also finds most Americans now support major government investment that creates jobs, with 82 percent favoring public works projects and 70 percent saying more government programs should help those now struggling.
Pollsters attributed the prevalent unhappiness of Americans to falling home prices, a wobbly stock market and the Iraq war.'
