Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested on Wednesday that Israel could launch unilateral military action against Iran despite ongoing regional efforts to secure a diplomatic agreement between Tehran and Washington.
The remarks came as Qatari mediators confirmed that negotiations have reached an advanced stage and as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian declared that attempts to overthrow the Islamic Republic had failed.
Netanyahu Signals Readiness to Act
Speaking on Wednesday, Netanyahu said Israel remained determined to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, suggesting that military action remained an option regardless of diplomatic developments.
“We heard today the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Ahmad Vahidi, declare that Iran intends to continue developing a nuclear weapon,” Netanyahu claimed.
“As Israel’s prime minister, I am determined to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.”
While describing the United States as “Israel’s greatest ally,” Netanyahu added that he was prepared to do “whatever is necessary” to guarantee Israel’s security.
Diplomacy Continues
Netanyahu’s remarks came as diplomatic efforts aimed at ending months of confrontation between Iran and the United States continued.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari said Tuesday that mediation efforts had reached “advanced stages,” with both sides exchanging draft proposals as negotiations continue toward a broader agreement.
He said regional mediators remain engaged with all parties in pursuit of a diplomatic solution.
The latest negotiations follow months of conflict that began after the United States and Israel launched military operations against Iran in late February.
Pakistan and Qatar have since played leading mediation roles, resulting in a memorandum of understanding signed in June before negotiations stalled over issues including navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
Pezeshkian: ‘Their Plan Failed’
Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said attempts to overthrow the Islamic Republic had failed despite months of military pressure.
Addressing the Iranian people, Pezeshkian said Iran’s adversaries believed they could bring about the country’s collapse within 48 hours.
“Our enemies made plans and imagined they could take control of Iran, as they did in Syria, within 48 hours,” he said.
He added that despite war and mounting challenges, Iran remains “a strong country that enjoys great respect.”
Pezeshkian described the current period as the most difficult since the 1979 Islamic Revolution but insisted national unity had prevented Iran’s collapse.
“As long as we remain united with the people, no power can overthrow the Islamic Republic,” he said.
He also accused Iran’s adversaries of attempting to provoke public unrest through economic pressure and military attacks, saying the Iranian people had remained steadfast in defending their country.
According to Pezeshkian, when military efforts failed, Iran’s enemies turned to assassinations, believing they could bring down the state by targeting its leadership.
“They thought the country would collapse after their brutal act, but the institutions continued, a new leader was chosen, and his presence today is a source of strength for us to continue this path,” he said.
