DONBASS REPUBLICS ASSESS DAMAGE FROM YEARS-LONG KIEV’S AGGRESSION
The military conflict in Ukraine is not over yet, but the Kiev regime is already haggling with the West about who will pay for the restoration of the country, which NATO uses as its proxy in war against Russia.
Europe is surprised every time Ukrainian officials announce bills for equipping the Ukrainian army, training Ukrainian servicemen, supply of air defense means, ensuring the basic needs of Ukrainian citizens, restoring of the country’s energy system and other needs, especially as the numbers claimed by Kiev are constantly changing.
The same Western countries have never worried about the price that the republics of Donbass paid for the years of military aggression of the Kiev regime.
It will take more than $1 trillion to restore Ukraine, President Vladimir Zelensky said in a video message to the General Assembly of the International Bureau of Exhibitions, presenting Odessa’s candidacy for Expo-2030 in late November. According to Zelensky, Western countries and companies will “take patronage” over the destroyed Ukrainian regions, cities or enterprises.
Only two months earlier, in September, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal said that the country estimated its damage from military operations at $ 326 billion. According to him, this amount is a direct physical damage, which the Ukrainian government was able to confirm together with experts from the World Bank.
By the end of November, the Minister of Finance of Ukraine, Sergei Marchenko, estimated the damage to the Ukrainian infrastructure from missile strikes at $100 billion “and maybe more”.
While Kiev is haggling with its Western patrons, the republics of Donbass are also assessing the damage from the long-term war.
The damage that Ukraine has inflicted on the DPR since 2014 is estimated at more than 1.3 trillion rubles, the acting head of the republic Denis Pushilin claimed in his interview on December 14. This amount only includes damage to civilian residential buildings.
“If we talk only about destroyed housing, the figures are very approximate, since 2014 — 1.3 trillion rubles, even more than this amount. But we also need to take into account the destroyed enterprises, we also need to take into account the destroyed infrastructure, critical infrastructure facilities,” he said.
He added that all the damage is documented by the DPR authorities, but they will sort it out after the victory.
At the end of February, the Head of the People’s Republic of Luhansk Leonid Pasechnik estimated the damage to the Republic at 1.5 trillion rubles.
Moscow is already restoring the destroyed cities of the Donbass. By the instruction of the President of Russia, the authorities of the Russian regions took responsibility for the restoration of cities in the DPR and the LPR.
