Opeens was hij daar, de Britse premier Boris Johnson. Lopend door de straten van Kiev, de Oekraïense president Volodomir Zelenski aan zijn zij, handenschuddend met inwoners. Na de wandeling zei Johnson meer hulp toe: méér economisch en militaire steun, méér sancties tegen Rusland.
Ziehier in een notendop de hedendaagse simplistische virtuele werkelijkheid. Terwijl steeds meer van zijn landgenoten in armoede geraken door ondermeer de stijgende gasprijzen, en steeds meer schandalen over hemzelf en zijn a-sociale kabinetsleden uitlekken, ‘blijft het [nu] stil.’
Dit is één van die honderden voorbeelden van hoe westerse propaganda werkt. ‘De boete vormt een hinderlijke onderbreking van Johnsons rol als oorlogspremier,’ aldus Het Parool. Precies hetzelfde geldt in Nederland, waar een al even onpopulair kabinet van brokkenmakers, leugenaars en corrupte lichtgewichten momenteel goede sier maakt met zijn steun aan een kongsi van miljardairs, onder wie de belastingontduiker Zelensky, CIA-agenten en Oekraïense neo-nazi terroristen die in opdracht van de al even onpopulaire Amerikaanse president een regime-change in Rusland probeert te forceren. Niet voor niets verklaarde Aleksey Arestovich, adviseur van het hoofd van het kabinet van Zelensky dat de troepen van Kiev zullen vechten ‘tot de laatste Oekraïner,’ en dat daarom het militaire conflict in Oekraïne zich zeker 'tien jaar' lang kan voortslepen.
Voor de lezers die zich verbazen over het feit dat ik de CIA als één van de hoofdrolspelers in dit conflict aanwijs, zal ik een fragment citeren uit het boek The CIA as Organized Crime. How Illegal Operations Corrupt America and the World (2017), geschreven door de onderzoeksjournalist Douglas Valentine. Alleen al het feit dat de joodse Zelenski, die heeft verklaard dat hij van het traditioneel anti-semitische Oekraïne na de huidige oorlog ‘één groot Israël’ zal maken, in 2019 tot president werd gekozen, is veelzeggend. For example, in 1989 there was an article in Marine Corps Gazette talking about modern warfare. That was 27 years ago. The authors of this article said, ‘The new type of warfare will be widely dispersed and largely undefined. The distinction between war and peace will be blurred to the vanishing point. There will be no definable battlefields or fronts. The distinction between civilian and military will disappear. Success will depend heavily on effectiveness and joint operations, as the lines between responsibility and mission become blurred.’
The kicker (de kern. svh) in the article was when they said that, ‘This new type of warfare will depend on psychological operations manifested in the form of media information intervention.’
All of this became standard operating procedure, at home and abroad, in terms of the military and CIA intervening in media information.
The article said, ‘One must be adept at manipulating the media to alter domestic and world opinion. On this new psychological battlefield, television news may become a more powerful operational weapon than armoured divisions.’
Twenty-seven years ago, before the Internet, the military was talking about how, in the global village, national boundary lines would vanish and the US would become the dominant power and influence events everywhere through the control of information. The article predicted that propaganda and psychological operations would become the defining factor in shaping political and social affairs.
This was before Facebook allowed people to talk to people in Brazil or the Philippines, or enemy nations like Russia or China. This was before we could read Russia Today and get information from sources that contradict the official US line. The military and State Department and CIA understood that this was evolving and were making plans to control it.
To become an individual who can look at all this information, and understand that the CIA is covertly trying to manipulate it — to make you think, feel and behave a certain way — well, that is a breathtakingly complex thing to do. It’s almost impossible to try to figure out where a particular piece of information is coming from — is it from the State Department or the military or the CIA? As the Marine Corps Gazette said, the boundaries have vanished. The information is so rapid and overwhelming and mixed in with corporate messages, other kinds of messages that are coming at us. It’s just like the person who wrote that article said: it’s a blur. Guy Debord talks about it in The Society of the Spectacle.
How can people adapt themselves, and adjust their assumptions about reality, in order to be able to discern, within a media spectacle that produced Donald Trump as a viable presidential candidate, what is really happening and where messages are coming from? It’s an incredible challenge. People are so overwhelmed and alienated, that they tend to withdraw — which is how Trump could create and control a social and political movement through Tweets and symbolic messages.
Wat u en ik via de ‘corporate press’ vernemen en zien, is niet de realiteit, maar de virtuele werkelijkheid. Die bepaalt dat wij de fatsoenlijken zijn en dat ‘onze’ vijanden het Kwaad vertegenwoordigen. Een volstrekt willekeurig voorbeeld van deze vertekening gaf RTLNieuws onlangs toen het stelde dat:

Het brengt Rusland volgens Hans van Koningsbrugge (Groningse Hoogleraar Geschiedenis en politiek van Rusland. svh) weer helemaal terug naar de Sovjet-tijd. ‘Er zijn nu Westerse radiozenders die in het Russisch uitzenden om het volk te proberen te bereiken. Het was vroeger dé manier om Russen een ander verhaal te laten horen dan alle propaganda.’
Met alle desinformatie lijkt Poetin het volk nu mee te krijgen. Zijn populariteit steeg volgens een vrij betrouwbare peiling van 69 procent in januari naar 83 procent in maart. ‘Het resultaat van het volledig controleren van de media en zaaien van twijfel,’ zegt Van Koningsbrugge. ‘Zolang hij met alle staatspropaganda het volk achter zich houdt, kan Poetin door blijven gaan met deze oorlog.’
Professor Van Koningsbrugge heeft gelijk, maar het feit dat hij er niet bij vermeld dat precies hetzelfde opgaat in het zogenaamde ‘vrije westen,’ is ironisch genoeg een schoolvoorbeeld van hoe propagandistisch ook westerse wetenschappers en zeker de westerse mainstream-media functioneren.
