Brazil economy could face deepest recession since 1901

Is Brazil’s economy headed for the worst recession in more than a century? That’s what the economic forecasters are saying right now.
Latin America’s largest economy, which has experienced such tremendous turnaround after decades of deep poverty, is projected to contract 2.95 percent, up from a previous estimate of 2.81 percent but down from 3.71 percent last year. It’s reported that Brazil could be in for the deepest recession since 1901.
This comes as Brazil is facing a major political crisis right now. Here are a few things that Brazil is currently battling:
– Rising inflation (4.5 percent)
– Pressure to moderate austerity proposals
– Risks of further credit downgrades
– Impeachment proceedings over allegations of corruption
– Economic policies that may help or worsen the country’s recession
The last time Brazil experienced two consecutive years of a recession was 1930 and 1931. But the worst economic period for the Latin American country was the year 1901.
