General Petraeus: Conflict presents distinct challenges to our ability to advance U.S. interests.

U.S. General David Petraeus said on Wednesday that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was fomenting anti-American sentiment due to the perception of U.S. favoritism towards Israel.

Speaking to the Senate Armed Services Committee, Petraeus explained that "enduring hostilities between Israel and some of its neighbors present distinct challenges to our ability to advance our interests in the area of responsibility."U.S. General David Petraeus said on Wednesday that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was fomenting anti-American sentiment due to the perception of U.S. favoritism towards Israel.
Speaking to the Senate Armed Services Committee, Petraeus explained that "enduring hostilities between Israel and some of its neighbors present distinct challenges to our ability to advance our interests in the area of responsibility."

"Arab anger over the Palestinian question limits the strength and depth of U.S. partnerships with governments and peoples [in the region]," Petraeus said.

U.S. Finds Iran Halted Its Nuclear Arms Effort in 2003

WASHINGTON, Dec. 3 — A new assessment by American intelligence agencies released Monday concludes that Iran halted its nuclear weapons program in 2003 and that the program remains frozen, contradicting a judgment two years ago that Tehran was working relentlessly toward building a nuclear bomb. Senator Harry Reid said the assessment was “directly challenging some of this administration’s alarming rhetoric” on Iran. 
The conclusions of the new assessment are likely to reshape the final year of the Bush administration, which has made halting Iran’s nuclear program a cornerstone of its foreign policy.

The assessment, a National Intelligence Estimate that represents the consensus view of all 16 American spy agencies, states that Tehran is likely to keep its options open with respect to building a weapon, but that intelligence agencies “do not know whether it currently intends to develop nuclear weapons.”

Deze informatie speelt een belangrijke rol op de achtergrond in de zaak McChrystal tegenover Obama, of juister gesteld in het conflict tussen de Amerikaanse militaire top en het pro-Israel Congres en Witte Huis. Op de een of andere manier zal de joodse lobby in de VS aan banden moeten worden gelegd, wil de VS niet een nog hogere en tenslotte onbetaalbare prijs moeten gaan betalen in het Midden Oosten. De Europese politici zouden dit moeten beseffen en hun geopolitieke belangen daarop moeten afstemmen. Maar zolang de EU-volksvertegenwoordigers de CDA-er Maria Gertruda Hermina Cecilia (Ria) Oomen-Ruijten uit Echt kiest tot Turkije-rapporteur van het EU-parlement en de christen fundamentalist Bas Belder van de SGP tot voorzitter van de delegatie voor de EU-betrekkingen met Israel vrees ik het ergste. Hoe is het in godsnaam mogelijk dat op zulke belangrijke posten een mevrouw terecht komt van wie de intellectuele achtergrond zich beperkt tot een diploma public relations, en een meneer die niets anders is dan een uit de klei getrokken christen extremist wiens intellectuele vermogen zich beperkt tot een boek waarin verhaald wordt over een man die over water liep? Hebben ze in Brussel of waar die lui ook mogen zitten geen enkel respect voor de kiezer?
