Welcome back. Today we're joined byScott Ritter, a former UN weaponsinspector, a US Marine Corps intelligenceofficer, and an author to discuss the USand Israeli attack on Iran and whatappears to be a very extensive retaliationby Iran. So you've been watching thisover the past few hours since the attackbegan.
What do you make of this attack?
Well, I mean, this is a very concertedeffort to remove the regime from power. Both Donald Trump and BenjaminNetanyahu declared the goal andobjective of this campaign to be regimechange. And they made the effort. Imean, they struck the residents of... AliKhamenei, the supreme leader, they triedto kill the president of Iran.
They've struck the residences andplaces of business of many of Iran'ssenior leadership, military and civilian. There are some casualties. Apparently, the president and the supreme leaderaren't among the casualties, but... Thiswas a decapitation effort that is ongoingas we speak. And the Iranians promisedthat if this war comes in,
that their response will be different thanit was during the 12-day war. And we'reseeing that, a broader range of targets,et cetera. We're very early into thisprocess, so it's impossible to predictoutcomes except to say this. we didn'tkill them. If the goal is regime change andyou don't kill the regime, you failed.
And I think that this failure will, unless it'simmediately reversed, will be thebeginning of a cascading sequence ofevents that are linked to this originalfailure. What I mean by this is, and I thinkyou and I discussed this the last time wetalked,
Scott Ritter is a former Major, Intelligence Officer, US Marine, and UN Weapons Inspector. Ritter discusses why the US made a terrible mistake by attacking Iran, and Iran will likely prevail.
