Listen, you Immoral Fool:
Alice Leibowitz from Love and Power
The "M" word
Morality as cudgel, morality as beacon
Unshakable: Own the Power of Your Moral Clarity, free workshop, Wednesday October 15, 7-9 pm Eastern US Time. Sign up here.
Leftists don’t talk about morality much.
But, also, we do.
There’s a lot of abusive morality out there, and a lot of it comes from the Right.
Calling queer people evil. Impeaching a president for having an affair. Good guys and bad guys. Calling immigrants criminals.
Progressives are tolerant. We don’t want to use morality as a cudgel.
But our politics is a politics of morality. It’s wrong to bomb Brown babies as they sleep. It’s wrong to deprive people of food and health care. It’s wrong to bully queer folks.
Lynching is wrong. Rape is wrong. Greed is wrong. Corruption is wrong. Imperialism is wrong. Inequality is wrong. Mass shootings are wrong.
Etc, etc, etc.
Abandoning morality doesn’t work. When my Congressmember tells me funding genocide is not a moral issue, I don’t just let that stand.
So, what’s the alternative?
If we don’t hit people over the head with abusive moral judgment, and we don’t abdicate morality as truth, what else is there?
Standing firm in our Unshakable moral clarity and letting it be the beacon for others to follow.
Come learn what that looks like at tonight’s free workshop, “Unshakable: Own the Power of Your Moral Clarity.”
Because the world needs truly moral voices. Including yours.
