War against the people: Israel, the Palestinians and global pacification
Presentation and launch of Jeff Halper’s new book
Wednesday 2nd of December, 20:00 in CREA
Nieuwe Achtergracht 170 Amsterdam
In this presentation of his latest book, War Against the People, Halper examines Israel’s “security politics,” how it parlays the military and security prowess gained through its decades of control over the Palestinians Into political clout in international affairs. Marketing the weaponry, security systems and surveillance systems developed in the laboratory of the West Bank and Gaza as essential to waging “wars against the people,” Israel is globalizing its Palestinian experience. By placing his analysis within the framework of capitalist hegemony, in which the pacification of peoples is integral to the smooth flow of capital, Halper argues that it is precisely Israel’s weapons and tactics of pacification that make it so useful for elites everywhere.
Jeff Halper is an Israeli anthropologist, the former head of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions. He serves on international support committee of the Bertrand Russell Tribunal on Palestine, and was nominated by the American Friends Service Committee for the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, together with the Palestinian intellectual and activist Ghassan Andoni.
The evening is organized by gate48, critical Israelis in the Netherlands, docP, FFIPP-NL, Educational Platform for Human Rights in Palestine/Israel, and SRP.
