Dear supporter,
Last March gate48, Een Ander Joods Geluid and Defence for Children - International issued a call for action against the solitary confinement of Palestinian children in Israeli detention centers. In an open letter our organizations asked our Minister of Foreign Affairs Uri Rosenthal to strongly speak out against solitary confinement of Palestinian children and plead for a total ban of this practice in his contacts with the Israeli government and in international forums.
Since then, hundreds of people have signed our letter, and several organizations have stated their support for our call of action: Cordaid, Oxfam Novib, Palestine Link, Stichting Talliq, Stichting Vrienden van Sabeel Nederland and United Civilians for Peace (UCP).
Due to this success we have decided to extent this call of action to Friday April 27th. If you have not yet signed the letter we would like to ask you to do so, by sending an e-mail to eajg@eajg.nl and mentioning ‘Letter Palestinian children’. In this e-mail you also state your name and place of residence. The letter is attached to this e-mail.
Because we have decided to extend our call for action we have decided to postpone presenting the letter to Minister Uri Rosenthal to the end of May, instead of the end of April as stated in the initial call. To support our action we also invited the lawyer Gerard Horton of the Palestinian branch of Defence for Children International (DCI-Pal) to the Netherlands in May. Gerard Horton will be here to talk with members of the Foreign Affairs committee in the Parliament and for a public debate on the issue of solitary confinement of Palestinian children and the new DCI report: ‘Bound, Blindfolded and Convicted: Children held in military detention’. More details on the visit will follow soon.
We will appreciate it if you would also bring this letter under the attention of your family and friends.
Kind regards,
gate48 - platform for critical Israelis in the Netherlands
