VP Vance slams Israeli effort to thwart peace talks with Iran
Vice President JD Vance has accused Israel of funding campaigns aimed at ruining US negotiations with Iran to end the war.
“You have seen this very discreet, extremely well-funded campaign to try to derail the negotiation and try to derail the deal,” Vance told the Joe Rogan podcast.
“A bunch of people who have quite literally been paid by a former Trump campaign person who was himself paid by certain elements within the Israeli government. And those people are attacking me viciously,” he said.
There was no immediate response from Israeli officials to the allegation.

Kuwait military responding to new Iranian drone attacks
Kuwaiti air defences are currently confronting attacks by “hostile drones” as strikes on the US’s Gulf allies continue.
“The General Staff of the Army notes that any explosion sounds heard are the result of air defence systems intercepting the hostile attacks,” the military said in a statement on X, denouncing “the sinful Iranian aggression”.
“Everyone is requested to adhere to the security and safety instructions issued by the competent authorities,” it added.

In the past hour, a vehicle was hit in Khan Younis in the south of the Strip.
According to locals, the car was surrounded by tents in which displaced Palestinians were sheltering. In the early hours of the day, Palestinians woke up to a huge explosion in the Gaza port that killed one person.
Two Palestinians were killed in the Tuffah neighbourhood in eastern Gaza. Israeli forces have been expanding the area they control and taking more land from the Gaza Strip.
Whoever approaches the area controlled by the army is hit with live ammunition.

Gulf nations heighten security around critical infrastructure
By Aksel ZaimovicReporting from Doha, Qatar
In this time of uncertainty, many Gulf countries have been preparing for any possible scenario, so that’s why we’re seeing strengthening air defences.
They have also increased military preparedness and tightened security around crucial infrastructure, including oil and gas facilities, airports, and desalination plants.
Bahrain this morning said it intercepted a large number of drones and missiles coming from Iran with similar statements coming from different countries across the region.
But any air defence system is not going to last long so there is still concern that any wider conflict could damage critical infrastructure. That’s going to cause a lot of issues for regional security but also the global economy.
So that’s why countries in the region are trying to put all the warring sides together and promote dialogue to end this conflict and find a solution.

Iran and US put down ‘red lines’ over Hormuz but ‘limitations’ exist
Cyrus Schayegh, a professor of history at the Geneva Graduate Institute, says the 40-day war launched by the US and Israel on Iran “created a more even balance of power” in the Middle East.
“Iran basically won strategically but is not more powerful, but more or less evenly powerful with the US in the Strait of Hormuz right now,” Schayegh told Al Jazeera.
“For this reason, Iran wants to keep the situation as it is, but the United States over wants the old power it had back … This explains why both sides are trying to put down red lines. This has an escalatory dynamic built into it, and I do believe we’ll see more of an escalation.”
However, he added, at the same time there are limitations “and perhaps the most important one are the Arab states in the Gulf who want to pressure Trump to basically stop escalating”.
Another limitation is the US domestic scene with not only Democrats but also Republicans “getting uneasy” with midterm congressional elections fast approaching, said Schayegh.

Iran condemns ‘barbaric’ US attack after cancer hospital evacuated
Iran has accused the United States of carrying out a “barbaric attack” after a cancer hospital in Iran’s southwest was forced to evacuate because of nearby heavy air strikes.
“This barbaric attack – reminiscent of Israel’s atrocities against healthcare facilities – caused severe suffering and anxiety upon the hospitalised children,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei posted on X.
He noted “211 patients undergoing chemotherapy” were evacuated. There was no immediate US response.

Hundreds of patients flee as US bombs near Iran cancer hospital
More than 200 patients from the Baghaei Specialised Hospital have been evacuated following deadly US strikes on southern Iran.
Hospital Director Reza Bazar said American attacks on Ahvaz city put the hospital out of service, Fars news agency quoted him as saying. There were no reports of casualties.
Dr Majid Bou’azar, manager of the hospital, told Al Jazeera that 211 patients “were forced to relocate” because of the strikes.
“These are special patients, including cancer patients, who are hospitalised here. Unfortunately, the area around here has been bombed heavily. Some of the patients [were] on oxygen and ventilators,” a staff member told Al Jazeera.
“Some people had children in their arms, some had IVs in their hands and some were in wheelchairs. Everyone went outside.”

Israel ‘razing villages to the ground’ in southern Lebanon
By Zeina KhodrReporting from Ghandourieh, Lebanon
The Israeli military has been systematically destroying civilian homes and infrastructure, razing villages to the ground.
We are not far from the area Israel occupies in southern Lebanon – the closest position is less than 1km (0.6 miles) away. We have been here for about four hours and heard four explosions as Israeli demolitions continue.
In Haddatha, another area in southern Lebanon, homes have been burned. Satellite images confirm widespread damage across the south, which corresponds to about 6 percent of the Lebanese territory.
These homes are people’s lives. They were destroyed when there was supposed to be a ceasefire. Even between the last ceasefire in November 2024 and the latest flare-up in March 2026, daily demolitions by the Israeli army occurred in the region.

Dozens of Palestinian patients evacuated from Gaza for treatment
The Palestine Red Crescent Society has helped evacuate 40 patients and 62 companions for medical treatment outside the war-ravaged Gaza Strip.
“The patients and their companions were prepared inside the al-Mawasi field hospital belonging to the association before being transferred by ambulance crews to the Rafah land crossing, in coordination with the World Health Organization and the competent authorities,” it said.
“Great challenges” continue to plague the besieged territory’s healthcare system as hospitals face continuous pressure and difficult conditions because of Israeli military attacks and the devastating blockade, it said.

‘Ending Hezbollah’s military arm a sovereign Lebanese decision’
Lebanon’s Foreign Minister Youssef Raggi says there will be no “duality of authority” in the country any more, apparently referring to the decision to disarm Hezbollah.
“There is now no longer any place for weapons outside the legitimacy of the state nor for decisions taken outside its institutions,” Raggi said in a speech.
“The decision to end Hezbollah’s military arm is a sovereign Lebanese decision.”
Raggi said the decision preceded the framework agreement reached in the US with Israel and paved the way for “enshrining the fact that decisions of war and peace, as well as foreign policy, now fall exclusively under the responsibility of the Lebanese state”.
The deployment of Lebanon’s army across the entire country “remains inseparable from Israel’s total withdrawal from all the Lebanese territories it still occupies”, he added.
A meeting in Washington, DC, on June 26 produced the agreement that called for an end to Israel’s war on Lebanon and the disarmament of “armed groups” – a reference to Hezbollah.

Netanyahu’s office says he won’t travel to US next week
The Israeli prime minister will not fly to the United States because of the postponement of the memorial service for Senator Lindsey Graham, his office says.
Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to travel there on Saturday and stay until Tuesday to attend the funeral service, according to Israeli media reports.
Graham – a staunch supporter of Israel and critic of Iran – died after a “brief and sudden illness” last week. Netanyahu called the hardline US senator a close friendand a strong supporter of the US-Israel alliance and praised his commitment to Israel’s security.

The latest on fighting between Tehran and Washington
By Shola LawalThe US military has continued strikes against Iran, hitting targets further to the country’s north as well as close to the capital, Tehran, for the first time in the latest round of violence.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it struck several military sites and assets in a bid to “further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten innocent mariners” in the Strait of Hormuz. The unit also said it “disabled” an oil tanker in the waterway.
At least 35 people have died, and more than 300 have been wounded in Iran in the latest wave of attacks that began last Wednesday.
