Philadelphia DA vows to arrest federal officers if they assault protestors
“Anyone, including federal law enforcement, who unlawfully assaults and kidnaps people will face criminal charges from my office.”
The city of Philadelphia is certainly on President Donald Trump’s list of deploying federal agents to arrest and detain protesters.
According to Truthout, Trump appeared to cite partisan politics as part of the reason he felt the need to take action against certain cities, telling reporters that beyond Portland, New York, Chicago and Philadelphia could be next to see federal law enforcement confront Black Lives Matter protesters in those cities.
Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner promises to take direct action against any federal officer who unlawfully handles protestors in his city.
“My dad volunteered and served in World War II to fight fascism, like most of my uncles, so we would not have an American president brutalizing and kidnapping Americans for exercising their constitutional rights and trying to make America a better place, which is what patriots do. Anyone, including federal law enforcement, who unlawfully assaults and kidnaps people will face criminal charges from my office,” says Krasner.
Trump claims the federal intervention at these protests are needed to calm and control excessive violence in the protest areas. Federal statues and monuments are among his concerns.
