This article in a Dutch newspaper is titled: "What are all those Chinese doing in Africa?". The first question that should come to mind, to anyone who has any awareness of Western influences in Africa in the previous centuries, is why is this newspaper not asking the question: "What are all these Westerners doing in Africa?" Well the reason this newspaper does not ask the latter question is because 'we', here in the West, are convinced that we have the right to be there. 'We' are convinced that it is normal for us to be there - whether there is Africa or any other part of the world - to take as much of the riches we can and bring it back home. Our presence in Africa is not something that has to be questioned, it's the most normal thing in the world. However, the presence of Chinese people in Africa is odd and should be scrutinized with due suspicion. It would of course be unacceptable if "those Chinese" are trying to steal 'our' riches from Africa.
