STOP TTIP 4

Please enable display of images to see this newsletter in its full glory! Here you would see a funny picture of President Juncker

Dear friends,

Today our activists gathered in Brussels to give a special present to Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on his 60th birthday. More than one million of you are demanding to stop TTIP and not conclude CETA. We have reminded him! Get all the latest news about this action on Facebook and Twitter.

Last Wednesday at 11.37pm we reached one million signatures for our self-organised European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) – in a record time of less than two months! Thanks so much to every one of you who made this possible. You helped us raise awareness of TTIP and CETA and collected signatures in your workplace, amongst friends and from strangers on the street. Please continue doing so as we have to keep up the pressure and want to collect another million!

We have achieved a lot this year but have even bigger ideas for the next. To realise these plans, we rely on your financial support. We want to intensify the campaign, build momentum in other EU member states, scrutinise the political process and react quickly to developments, for instance with creative actions. And of course signature collection will continue at full steam. We will not stop until TTIP and CETA are history! Please help us with a donation:https://stop-ttip.org/donation/

Best wishes,
Michael Efler, Stephanie Roth and Cornelia Reetz

CETA Study

Interesting new study: How CETA threatens democracy

Authors take a closer look at investor protection rules in EU - Canada agreement

On September 26th 2014 Canada and the European Union announced a conclusion on CETA. The agreement includes extensive rules on investor protection, including an investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) mechanism. This mechanism lies at the core of the threat CETA poses to democracy.

Minimum required signatures reached in seven member states!

How is the ECI campaign doing in my country? You can now check the signature count by EU Member State on our website. We are pleased to announce that we have reached the minimum required signatures ("country quorums") in seven EU Member States: Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, France, Slovenia, Luxembourg and Finland. This means we now fulfil both official requirements for a successful ECI. We are close to reaching the quorum in a number of other countries too. Click on "more" to see for yourself.

Growing resistance against trade deals

The proponents of TTIP and CETA are totally on the defensive. Resistance is growing – not only amongst citizens but also in national and regional parliaments. Two examples from the last few weeks are particularly encouraging: both the Dutch and the French parliaments have passed resolutions to express their concerns about TTIP and CETA. Is our protest having an effect?
