Israel is facing a "mental health tsunami"

Israel is facing a "mental health tsunami", with an estimated two million people in need of support following two years of war and an "unprecedented outbreak of mental illness". A recent extensive report published by Israeli news outlet Yedioth Ahronoth highlights a severe shortage of therapists and services to handle the crisis. There has been a dramatic rise in individuals seeking psychological help since the October 7, 2023. Diagnoses of depression and anxiety in 2024 were double those in 2013, while cases of PTSD surged 70% each month from October 2023 to the end of 2024. The crisis is particularly acute within the military, with thousands of soldiers and reservists seeking help. One report noted a 1000% increase in requests for psychological treatment from reserve forces.
