Crosetto: “ICC is wrong about Netanyahu, but we should apply the decision”

And so if (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu or (former Defense Minister Yoav) Gallant came to Italy we should, not by political decision, it has nothing to do with it, but by applying an international law, we should arrest them”.

This is what Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said on Porta a Porta on Rai 1 about the decision of the International Criminal Court.

“By joining the Court we must apply its sentences, it is part of the treaty. Every State that joins would be obliged, the only way not to apply it would be to leave the treaty. It is not a matter of political opposition, as the Democratic Party says”, he continued.

“I can believe that this sentence is wrong. I believe it is wrong – he said -. Lebanon, rockets on the Unifil base: 4 Italians injured

In the early hours of today (Friday 22 November – ed.), two 122 mm rockets hit the headquarters of the international UN mission Unifil in Shamaa, Sector West, slightly injuring four Italian soldiers of the Sassari Brigade. They have already spoken to their families, reassuring them that they are fine. The names and places of origin have not been disclosed.

The rockets, probably launched by Hezbollah or affiliated groups, hit a bunker and a logistics area used by the international military police, causing significant damage to nearby infrastructure. One of the structures hit, UNIFIL explains, caught fire, but the flames were quickly put out by the base personnel. Some windows, due to the explosion, shattered, hitting the Italian soldiers.

Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed “my and the government’s solidarity and closeness to the injured, their families and sincere gratitude for the work carried out daily by the entire Italian contingent in Lebanon”.

The prime minister said she learned “with deep indignation and concern the news of the new attacks suffered by the Italian headquarters of UNIFIL” and reiterated “once again that such attacks are unacceptable”, renewing “my appeal for the parties on the ground to guarantee, at all times, the safety of UNIFIL soldiers and to collaborate to quickly identify those responsible”. The episode was condemned and deplored by the President of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa.
