Donald Trump has promoted a claim that he is the “king of Israel” and the “second coming of God”.
In his latest Twitter outburst, the US president shared quotes from conservative author and conspiracy theorist Wayne Allyn Root.
The quotes read: “President Trump is the greatest President for Jews and for Israel in the history of the world, not just America, he is the best President for Israel in the history of the world and the Jewish people in Israel love him like he’s the King of Israel.
"They love him like he is the second coming of God. But American Jews don’t know him or like him. They don’t even know what they’re doing or saying anymore.
"It makes no sense! But that’s OK, if he keeps doing what he’s doing, he’s good for all Jews, Blacks, Gays, everyone. And importantly, he’s good for everyone in America who wants a job.”
The president added his own verdict on the quotes, saying: “Wow!”
Trump urges Jews not to vote for Democrats
Mr Trump is popular in Israel, having closely aligned himself with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The tweets came amid a row in which Mr Trump accused American Jewish people who vote for Democrats of "great disloyalty”.
He was subsequently accused of echoing anti-Semitic stereotypes. A number of Jewish groups noted accusations of disloyalty have long been made against Jewish people.
Halie Soifer, executive director of the Jewish Democratic Council of America, said: "At a time when anti-Semitic incidents have increased - due to the president's emboldening of white nationalism - Trump is repeating an anti-Semitic trope."
There was also a Twitter backlash against Mr Trump, with thousands of Jewish voters posting their opposition to the president with a "#DisloyalToTrump" hashtag.
