Anti-Russia/Anti-Syria Propaganda War

Anti-Russia/Anti-Syria Propaganda War
by Stephen Lendman (stephenlendman.org – Home – Stephen Lendman)
It plays out daily in Western capitals and media reports – disinformation drowning out truth-telling.
Good guys are called evil, bad ones considered freedom fighters, reality on the ground in US war theaters turned upside down, notably in Syria – a nation defending itself against US-supported terrorists, its legitimate self-defense called war crimes by Western officials and media.
John Pilger correctly called journalism the first casualty of war, adding it’s “a weapon of war…virulent censorship…by omission,” disinformation and Big Lies.
In their book “Guardians of Power,” David Edwards and David Cromwell explained why today’s media are in crisis, putting free and open societies at risk.
Media scoundrels substitute fiction for facts, reporting managed news disinformation, sanitizing reports to conform to state policies, especially on war and peace.
The battle for truth played out Thursday during a Security Council session on Eastern Ghouta, Syria, the area controlled by US-supported al-Nusra and other terrorist groups, holding countless thousands of civilians hostage, using them as human shields, blocking humanitarian aid from reaching them, responsible for dire conditions – wrongfully blamed on Russia and Syria during Thursday’s Security Council session.
Russian UN envoy Vasily Nebenzya blamed “irreconcilable militants, including those linked with terrorist organizations” for crisis conditions in Eastern Ghouta – adding Western propaganda supports and encourages their atrocities against defenseless civilians.
US-led terror-bombing high crimes in Mosul, Raqqa and elsewhere are misreported as just war on ISIS Washington created and supports.
Syrian and Russian liberating efforts against cutthroat killer terrorists in Aleppo, other Syrian cities and towns, and now Eastern Ghouta are disgracefully called war crimes.
A Western draft resolution on the dire situation is unacceptable for failing to agree on combating them.
According to Sergey Lavrov, Russia supports a Security Council resolution on Eastern Ghouta with “very strict wording say(ing) the ceasefire regime does not cover ISIS, Jabhat al-Nusra, and the groups that support them and regularly shell the residential neighborhoods of Damascus.”
Washington and its allies “don’t agree (on) excluding the terrorists from the ceasefire” – clear evidence of their support for these groups, a scourge crucial to defeat.
Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov bluntly said “(t)hose responsible for the situation in East Ghouta are those who support the terrorists.”
“(N)either Russia, nor Syria, nor Iran belong to the category of such states, for it is they who on the ground are engaged in an irreconcilable struggle against the(m).”
Washington and its rogue allies bear full responsibility – for supporting ISIS, al-Nusra and other terrorist groups, providing them with heavy weapons, aiding them by terror-bombing, massacring civilians, turning cities and towns to rubble.
In March 2011, Obama launched naked aggression on Syria, using ISIS and other terrorist groups as imperial foot soldiers.
Trump escalated what he began. Washington seeks another imperial trophy – no matter the human cost.
Russia’s September 2015 intervention in Syria foiled America’s imperial objective, changing the dynamic on ground – yet failing to achieve conflict resolution because Washington wants endless war, regime change, and elimination of Syrian sovereignty.
How far is it willing to go? Will the Trump administration escalate things more than already?
Will it risk direct confrontation with Russia? Or will it step back from the brink to avoid unthinkable war with a nation able to give as much as it takes?
Given Washington’s rage for endless wars and global dominance, it’s hard being optimistic about what’s ahead.
