Onderwerp: [JUSTWATCH] Attack on UN school in Gaza a potential war crime that must be investigated
Antwoord aan: International Justice Watch Discussion List <JUSTWATCH-L@LISTSERV.BUFFALO.EDU>
First, I must denounce the latest tragic developments in Gaza.
This morning, yet another United Nations school sheltering
thousands of Palestinian families suffered a reprehensible attack.
All available evidence points to Israeli artillery as the cause.
Nothing is more shameful than attacking sleeping children. At least
16 civilians are dead and many more are injured. I want to make it
clear that the precise location of this Jabalia Elementary Girls' School
had been communicated to the Israeli military authorities 17 times - as
recently as last night, just a few hours before the attack. They were
aware of the coordinates and exact locations where these people are
being sheltered.
Families had been instructed to seek sanctuary at UN sites, including
the one repeatedly shelled today.
I condemn this attack in the strongest possible terms. It is outrageous.
It is unjustifiable. And it demands accountability and justice.

An attack overnight on the Jabaliya elementary school in Gaza, where more than 3,000 displaced civilians had sought refuge, is a possible war crime and should be independently investigated, said Amnesty International today. The attack killed at least 20 people and injured dozens more at the school, which is located inside the very densely populated Jabaliya Refugee Camp.
An initial assessment by UNRWA – the UN relief agency for displaced Palestinians and refugees - who analysed fragments and damage at the site, indicates the school was hit by Israeli artillery despite the fact that UNRWA shared its coordinates with the Israeli army 17 times. The strike is the sixth attack on a UN-run school in Gaza since Operation "
