Palestine Is Officially a Litmus Test for DemocratsThe victory of 29-year-old Melat Kiros confirms that Gaza is the new moral litmus test for Democrats who seek to gain power. Unfortunately, corporate donors and the establishment refuse to evolve.
Melat Kiros was fired from her job after she wrote a blog post defending pro-Palestinian law students from accusations of antisemitism. She moved to Colorado and decided to run as a Democratic Socialist, unabashedly calling out Israel’s genocide, supporting Medicare for All, and demanding the abolishment of ICE. She also refused to take corporate PAC money and rejected the ossified leadership of Chuck Schumer and establishment Democrats. She won by nearly 10 points. As you can imagine, Democratic leaders and their donors are continuing their panic attacks that began with the emergence of Zohran Mamdani. Speaking of the first Muslim mayor of NYC, Kamala Harris reportedly placed a call to Mamdani last week and is having closed-door meetings with progressive leaders and pro-Palestinian activists. What does this mean? She’s seriously contemplating a run for President, and she realizes the only path to the White House is by meeting the majority and condemning Israel’s ongoing genocide. Unfortunately, it might not be enough for her, considering she chose to be complicit and refused to have a single Palestinian appear on stage at the 2024 DNC. Palestine is the litmus test for Democrats moving forward. It can no longer be ignored or browbeaten away with dangerous and ridiculous accusations of anti-semitism. Democrats must answer whether they support Israel’s illegal actions, stand behind the corrupt and criminal Netanyahu government, and will continue to take money from AIPAC, which has spent millions against Democrats. I discuss all of these massive developments with Dean Obeidallah. ***Because I’m a terrible capitalist, here’s a great 25% off discount for new paid subscribers.
