  Iran’s deputy foreign minister: ‘Coming hours very critical’

  Saeed Khatibzadeh has confirmed that the Iranian delegation will travel for the talks with the US in Islamabad, according to Iran’s Fars news agency.

  But he also laid out some conditions before any agreement is reached, saying the US must stop Israel from attacking Lebanon.

  He said any peace in the region must include Lebanon, adding that “the coming hours are very critical”.

  ‘No sign of slowdown in Lebanon fighting, at least for now’

  Throughout the night and into today, there have been constant sounds of overflights, jets, and drones here in southern Lebanon. Two separate strikes in the last 12 hours alone killed a total of 17 people, one in the Al-Zrariyeh neighbourhood of Sidon, and another here in Abbasiya in Tyre. Most of those killed were women and children.

  Strikes have been reported throughout the southern front, around Bint Jbeil and further north into Marjayoun and the western Bekaa Valley. Hezbollah says it has launched rockets into northern Israel in response, triggering alarm bells in communities there.

  The bridge connecting Tyre to the rest of the country was significantly damaged in an overnight strike. Local officials say they have managed to partially repair it and restore some traffic movement, but many of the bridges crossing the Litani River connecting north and south have been completely destroyed or severely damaged. Even with partial repairs, movement in and out of the south remains extremely difficult for civilians.

  If Israel continues striking infrastructure like bridges, life for those who remain here will become increasingly impossible. Medical teams operating in the field continue to be targeted. There is no sign of any slowdown in the fighting, at least for now.
