A Syrian explains: 'An international war is fought above our heads, remember there was no need for that...' Robert Fisk agrees: 'The West's real target here is not Assad's brutal regime but his ally, Iran, and its nuclear weapons.' The question here is what is in this international strategic political game for the people of Syria? Are they getting any benefit? Will democracy come to them, to feed them, ensure future jobs, create freedom? In the meantime Europe neglects her neighboring plights. The Fort of Europe is trying hard to keep all refugees outside, concentrating on interests and far away friend America.
'So many Syrians are suffering now, so many are scared, so many would like to leave but have no option but to stay. Some shop owners prefer to stay the night in their shops rather than risk the journey home. For months, the opposition and regime have been battling each other,' reports John Wreford from Damascus.
Stories of shopkeepers being threatened to join the opposition, otherwise their shops will be burned down. Stories of Syrian scientists who are killed, just like scientists in Iraq and Iran. The silent majority of the Syrian people doesn't want this war. People are forced to take a stance: pro or contra. There is pressure both from inside and outside. Lets turn back and realize there is a third way. 'We have been always one, we are one Arabic society, moslims, christians and jews together. We want to bring this back!' says Father Paolo.
