Nederland en Afghanistan 53

De Volkskrant bericht vanochtend: 'Nederland stuurt extra militairen en materieel naar Uruzgan. Dat is volgens het kabinet nodig omdat het verzet van de Taliban in Zuid-Afghanistan steeds professioneler wordt. Ook breidt het geweld zich uit naar het oosten. De veiligheidssituatie in Uruzgan is recentelijk aanzienlijk verslechterd’, schrijven de ministers Kamp van Defensie en Bot van Buitenlandse Zaken in een dinsdag verzonden brief aan de Kamer. Nederland zou aanvankelijk 1200 militairen leveren voor de internationale stabilisatiemacht (ISAF) in Uruzgan, met een uitloop naar 1400. Het worden er nu 1400, met een uitloop naar 1600. Tijdens de opbouwfase van de troepenmacht zullen er op enig moment zelfs 2000 Nederlandse militairen in Zuid-Afghanistan zijn... Het kabinet stuurt overigens twee extra F-16’s naar Afghanistan. Ook gaan er onbemande verkenningsvliegtuigjes en robots voor explosievenopruiming naar Uruzgan. De extra investeringen kosten 380 tot 410 miljoen euro, exclusief de inzet van extra F-16’s.' Van het NOS-Journaal gisteravond begreep ik dat dit militair avontuur 100 miljoen euro extra gaat kosten. Belastinggeld dat in deze tijd van bezuinigingen kennelijk beschikbaar is voor een zinloze politiek. Hoe zinloos blijkt wel uit het boek 'Imperial Hubris. Why the West is Loosing the War on Terror,' van Michael Scheuer, 'a 22-year CIA veteran. He served as the Chief of the bin Laden Unit at the Counterterrorist Center from 1996 to 1999. He resigned from the CIA in 2004. He is currently a News Analyst for CBS News as well as a Terrorism Analyst for the Jamestown Foundation's "Global Terrorism Analysis."' Over de kennis van de Amerikaanse inlichtingendiensten schrijft hij: 'the thing that these American experts knew best and above all others was that there was no possibility of installing a broad-based, Western-style, democratic, power-sharing central government in Kabul. They knew also that any attempt to do so would inevitably fail and take that much-brutalized country on yet another long and bloody trail that would end, at some point, in the restoration of a Pashtun-dominated Islamist government that would mirror the Taliban in all but name.' Ondanks deze waarschuwing van een Amerikaanse expert gaat ons kabinet van brokkenmakers het toch eens proberen, want het staat pal achter de regering Bush. En juist de neoconservatieve en ideologisch bevlogen beleidsbepalers in Washington weigerden de kennis van de inlichtingendiensten te gebruiken voor hun avonturen in het midden-oosten. In de woorden van Scheuer: 'the strategy's subsequent failure (in Afghanistan. svh) shows its planners' complete lack of comprehension of Afghanistan's tribal, ethnic, and religious realities... no U.S. leader was given the expert analysis that would have allowed him to see beyond the war's easy part - bombing the air-defenseless Taleban from power.' En nu de chaos compleet is, moet de NAVO aan de slag. Kennelijk is deze organisatie in een moment van onachtzaamheid van een defensieve organisatie verandert in een offensieve organisatie. De Nederlandse militaire missie staat onder supervisie van minister Kamp, oud-wethouder van Borculo dat ergens in de Achterhoek ligt en in 1925 landelijke bekendheid kreeg nadat het door een cycloon was getroffen.

De Amerikaanse onderzoeksjournalist Robert Dreyfuss schrijft: 'Iraq War, Round Two. Missing from the discussion over Iraq in the United States is the growing likelihood that the Bush administration will escalate, not de-escalate, the war. If they do, their goal will be to employ another round of "shock and awe" - namely, massive U.S. military air and ground" - in a desperate effort to tip the balance in Iraq in America's favor in advance of the 2006 elections. The failed war in Iraq is overwhelmingly the key factor driving down poll numbers for the president, vice president and the Republican Party in general. It's by no means clear that Democrats will capture either or both houses of Congress in November, but if they do it will open the floodgates for a never-ending series of partisan investigations by congressional committees, not only into Iraq but the myriad other scandals plaguing the administration. That's a terrifying prospect for the Bush-Cheney team, and one they cannot allow at any cost.
The so-called "doves" in the Bush administration - who sometimes like to call themselves "realists" - have apparently settled on the idea of a slow drawdown of U.S. forces in Iraq, combined with the stepped-up effort to cobble together a shaky government of national unity in Iraq that could take the lead in fighting the Sunni-led resistance. The idea behind that strategy is to convince American voters in advance of November, 2006, that Iraq is stabilizing, that the war is being won and that American troops are coming home. The fact that American troops will probably be in Iraq for a decade at least, if not far longer, is an ugly reality that the administration's doves hope will dawn on Americans after the election. The same goes for the fact that Iraq is already engulfed in a civil war that no "national unity" regime can put an end to-particularly a regime made up of the same gaggle of exile leaders and warlords who, in succession, led the Iraqi Governing Council in 2003, the interim and transitional governments of 2004-2005 and the so-called "permanent" government of 2006.' De New York Times bericht: 'U.S. to Investigate Deaths Related to 2 Battles in Afghanistan. KABUL, Afghanistan - The United States military on Sunday announced that it would investigate the deaths connected to two combat operations in Afghanistan in the past two days against insurgents believed to be tied to the Taliban. Seven civilians were reported killed in one battle. In the other battle, civilians also were reported killed or wounded, and four Afghan police officers were reported by villagers to have been killed by United States fire. The prompt decision to investigate the circumstances in both incidents and to announce the step reflected a new openness by the United States military command about its operations in Afghanistan. But it also revealed coordination problems among Afghan forces, the American military and other foreign forces in Afghanistan as the insurgency that is believed to be linked to the country's former Taliban rulers has found strength with the return of spring weather. Coalition forces fought insurgents in Kunar Province in the east on Saturday night, pounding a house and a cave where militants were holed up, using air support, artillery and direct fire. "Several of the insurgents are believed to have been killed; the rest retreated," said a United States military statement. But in the aftermath, soldiers found that civilians had been killed or wounded in the fighting. De Israelische Terreur 12

De Volkskrant berichtte vanochtend: 'De Palestijnse Hamas-regering heeft de zelfmoordaanslag in Tel Aviv, waarbij maandag negen Israëli’s zijn omgekomen, een daad van zelfverdediging genoemd.' Degenen die de recente Israelische terreur in bezet Palestijns gebied en in het belegerde Gaza hebben gevolgd komt de verklaring van Hamas niet onverwachts. Hoe gruwelijk een aanslag ook is, het is als een daad van zelfverdediging bedoeld. Op die manier hopen wanhopige Palestijnen dat aan het Israelisch terrorisme een einde zal komen. Via praten en onderhandelen lukte het niet zo heeft het afgelopen decennium aangetoond. Israel wordt door het Westen beloond voor zijn geweld, de Palestijnen gestraft. Dus is de enige logische consequentie dat men zelf voor de vrijheid strijdt met de wapens die men voor handen heeft. Net zoals Israel dat doet met zijn geavanceerde wapens. "De Palestijnen hebben zelf voor deze regering gekozen, dus zijn ze ook verantwoordelijk voor de gevolgen", zei hij.' Vanwege hun democratische recht om te kiezen worden de Palestijnen gestraft. De Israelische kiezers die op de terrorist Sharon stemden werden beloond met militaire, financiele, en economische steun. Het probleem voor politici als Bot is nu dat Hamas financiele steun van rijke Arabische landen krijgt en dus niet meer voor een groot deel afhankelijk is van Westerse steun en dat Hamas, nu het door het Westen geboycot wordt, niet meer onder druk kan worden gezet. Maar er is een nog veel fundamenteler probleem dat minister Bot en andere Westerse politici weigeren in te zien en dat probleem is perfect omschreven door Michael Scheuer, 'a 22-year CIA veteran. He served as the Chief of the bin Laden Unit at the Counterterrorist Center from 1996 to 1999. He resigned from the CIA in 2004.' In zijn boek 'Imperial Hubris. Why the West is loosing the War on Terror,' concludeert hij:
'U.S. leaders refuse to accept the obvious: We are fighting a worldwide Islamic insurgency - not criminality or terrorism - and our policy and procedures have failed to make more than a modest dent in enemy forces.
The military is now America's only tool and will remain so while current policies are in place. No public diplomacy, presidential praise for Islam, or politically correct debate masking the reality that many of the world's 1.3 billion Muslims hate us for actions not values, will get America out of this war.
Bin Laden has been precise in telling America the reasons he is waging war on us. None of the reasons have anything to do with our freedom, liberty, and democracy, but have everything to do with U.S. policies and actions in the Muslim world.
The war bin Laden is waging has everything to do with the tenets of the Islamic religion. He could not have his current - and increasing- level of succes if Muslims did not believe their faith, brethren, resources, and lands to be under attack by the United States and, more generally, the West. Indeed, the United States, and its policies and actions, are bin Laden's only indispensable allies.' En ditzelfde geldt tevens voor de Europese Unie die Hamas boycot en tegelijkertijd Israel beloont. Tot nu toe is de joodse natie geen 1 keer werkelijk gestraft voor zijn permanente onderdrukking van de Palestijnen, en ook niet voor zijn oorlogsmisdaden en zijn etnische zuiveringen, ook niet voor het negeren van VN-resoluties, het vermoorden van kinderen, vrouwen, bejaarden, ook niet voor het bezetten van andere landen, het ontwikkelen van nucleaire bommen en andere massavernietigingswapens, het roven van andermans land. Voor de Westerling mag dit allemaal normaal lijken, maar niet voor de rest van de wereld. Zo'n opmerking van minister Bot getuigt van een geweldige misvatting. Om kinderen en een - door de Israelische bezetting en terrorisme- al gestrafte bevolking nog eens met ziekte en honger te chanteren heeft niets met democratie te maken en alles met het terroriseren van een reeds geterroriseerde bevolking. Zo ziet de rest van de wereld dit ook. American Free Press bericht: 'From the beginning, the Bush administration claimed that burning jet fuel caused the collapse of the towers. Although many independent investigators have disagreed, they have been hard pressed to disprove the government theory since most of the evidence was hastily removed by the federal government prior to independent investigation. Critics claim the Bush administration has tried to cover up the evidence. The recent 9-11 commission has failed to address the major evidence contradicting the official version of 9-11.Some facts demonstrating the flaws in the government jet fuel theory include:• Photos showing people walking around in the hole in the North Tower where 10,000 gallons of jet fuel supposedly was burning.• When the South Tower was hit, most of the North Tower’s flames had already vanished, burning for only 16 minutes, making it relatively easy to contain and control without a total collapse.• The fire did not grow over time, probably because it quickly ran out of fuel and was suffocating, indicating without added explosive devices the fires could have been easily controlled.• FDNY firefighters still remain under a tight government gag order to not discuss the explosions they heard, felt and saw. FAA personnel are also under a similar 9-11 gag order.• Even the flawed 9-11 commission report acknowledges that “none of the [fire] chiefs present believed that a total collapse of either tower was possible.”• Fire had never before caused steel-frame buildings to collapse, nor has fire collapsed any steel high rise since 9-11.• The fires, especially in the South Tower and WTC-7, were relatively small.• WTC-7 was unharmed by any airplane and had only minor fires on the seventh and 12th floors of this 47-story steel building, yet it collapsed in less than 10 seconds.• WTC-5 and WTC-6 had raging fires but did not collapse despite much thinner steel beams.• It’s difficult if not impossible for hydrocarbon fires like those fed by jet fuel to raise the temperature of steel close to melting.' Er kleeft een racistisch element aan de Westerse berichtgeving over Israel. De afgelopen weken besteedde bijvoorbeeld het Radio I Journaal geen enkele aandacht aan het vermoorden van Palestijnse burgers door het Israelische leger. Kennelijk is voor de NOS een Palestijns leven minder waard dan een joods leven. Een verontwaardigd klinkende Rob Trip hoorde vanochtend zijn gast het PVDA Tweede Kamerlid Bert Koenders terloops iets zeggen over de recente doden onder de Palestijnen, maar vond het niet belangrijk genoeg om erop in te gaan. In Trip's wereld bestaan geen oorzaak en gevolg, hij is niet geinteresseerd in verklaringen maar in schuldigen, voor hem bestaan er alleen daders en die zijn nu eenmaal altijd van Arabische afkomst. De wereld is voor hem eenvoudig zwart-wit. Vandaar ook dat hij het nieuws presenteert als een soort corvee, een invuloefening, alleen de namen veranderen. Nieuws als een eeuwige herhaling van zetten, op radio en tv. Veel genuanceerder wordt door de Israelische Vredesbeweging gedacht. Adam Keller is woordvoerder van Gush Shalom. In Electronic Intifadah schrijft hij: 'One o'clock. In the noon news magazine on the radio, the commentator speaks in a rather bored way of the ongoing army raid into Nablus, words nearly identical to the reports of yesterday and of last week: "The Palestinians claim that the boy shot in central Nablus was unarmed... The soldiers assert that they had shot only at armed militants, as per orders...""This is part of a continuing operation to root out terrorists in Nablus and Jenin, which is already going on for several weeks... When soldiers arrive, dozens of youngsters start throwing stones, which complicates the detention of wanted terrorists..." Suddenly: "We interrupt this report. A large explosion just occurred at the Old Central Bus Station in Tel-Aviv. Dozens of casualties. Stand by for further details."The Old Central Bus Station. The least fashionable part of Tel-Aviv. The lively dirty streets which are the haunt of migrant workers one jump ahead of the notorious Immigration Police and the most poor and disadvantaged among Israel's own citizens. The place where people have again and again to endure suicide bombings, too. Today, once again.As always, the dilemma: Should we go there, to the scene where six people have just perished and forty others wounded, a place which is just a short bus ride away and where we just a few days ago went to buy sandals? Go there, as Israelis and human beings and and peace activists - but to do what? To say what?Sure, we are horrified by the senseless random killing. But we have also something to say about why it happened, how it might have been prevented, how the next one can still be prevented. But how to say it on this day and in that location? How to make comprehensible, to shocked and angry and traumatized people, that the occupation is the root cause of our suffering as well as the Palestinians'? How to explain convincingly that we must dry at source the oppression which makes young Palestinians don explosive belts and throw away their lives together with those of others?' Lees verder:
