Mustafa Barghouthi, is een Palestijnse arts, politicus en activist. Hij is medeoprichter en secretaris-generaal van de politieke partij Palestijns Nationaal Initiatief. Barghouti is voorstander van geweldloos verzet tegen de Israëlische bezetting en een eenstaat-oplossing met gelijke rechten voor Joden en Palestijnen:
Israel does not want two states, does not want one state. What do they want? Ethnic cleansing of Palestinians. And the most terrible thing about Trump's plan is that it gives Israel the time to continue the settlement-building in the Westbank so that we will reach a point where it will be impossible to have a Palestinian state.
So, you can't call it a plan for peace when it is aiming at that result. It is actually a plan not to have peace, because without our right to self-determination there can be peace.
Israël wil geen twee staten, wil geen één staat. Wat willen ze dan wel? Etnische zuivering van Palestijnen. En het meest verschrikkelijke aan Trumps plan is dat het Israël de tijd geeft om door te gaan met de nederzettingenbouw op de Westelijke Jordaanoever, zodat we een punt bereiken waarop het onmogelijk is om een Palestijnse staat te hebben.
Je kunt het dus geen vredesplan noemen wanneer het dit doel nastreeft. Het is in feite een plan om juist géén vrede te hebben, want zonder ons recht op zelfbeschikking kan er geen vrede zijn.
