The Russian Defense Ministry has announced that it is suspending its communication channel with the US military in Syria in response to the downing of a Syrian warplane on Sunday.
In comments made on Monday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned the US against further "unilateral action" over Syria's airspace.
Washington says the Syrian jet had dropped bombs near US-backed forces, but Damascus insists the plane was downed while flying a mission against Islamic State militants.
"Russian Aerospace Forces' jets were conducting operations in Syrian airspace that time. However, the command of the coalition forces didn't use the existing channel between the air command of the Qatari airbase al Udeid and the [Russian] Hmeymim airbase to avoid incidents over Syria," the ministry said. The ministry added that it "demands a thorough investigation by the US command with the provision of its results and measures taken."
