Iran warns US over nuclear deal
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says his country will abide by a nuclear deal with the world's major powers as long as the other side does the same.
Rouhani made the remark in connection with the United States' decision to extend a law on sanctions against Iran for 10 years.
In a meeting with International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Yukiya Amano on Sunday in Tehran, Rouhani criticized the extension as a violation of the deal between Iran and 6 world powers. He argued that the move undermines trust in the US administration.
The law imposes sanctions on investments in Iran's energy industry to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons.
The law has effectively been suspended since the deal was signed in July of last year. Republican Congressmen who supported the extension explain that it was done to prepare for possible violations by Iran.
The IAEA is tasked with monitoring whether Tehran is limiting its nuclear development as stipulated in the deal.
The Iranian media quoted Amano as saying that Iran has been committed to its engagement so far and that this is important.
