Het is een druilerige, winterse dag. Gelukkig zit ik warm thuis in een leunstoel. Max verplaatst zich razendsnel door de kamer en komt steeds weer aan met een ander speeltje. 'Auto,' roept hij hard, terwijl hij een speelgoedauto in mijn schoot werpt. Even later keert hij terug met een prentenboek vol getekende dieren: 'Maxie lezen.' Goed zo Max, ga maar lezen, spoor ik mijn peuter aan. Tegelijkertijd probeer ik op mijn telefoon de eerste grote toespraak van Mark Rutte als secretaris-generaal van de Navo te volgen.
Veel van de woorden van onze oud-premier versta ik niet. Maar wat ik wél hoor stemt me niet meteen optimistisch: “Het wordt tijd om ons geestelijk voor te bereiden op oorlog.” En: “Het gevaar komt met volle snelheid op ons af.” Mijn blik richt zich van het scherm naar het kleine jongetje dat intussen in een hoek van de kamer dieren aan het bekijken is. 'Egel,” zegt hij. “Varken. Krokodi. Laab.' (Dat betekent: schaap.)
De woorden van Rutte komen niet uit de lucht vallen. De wereldorde zoals we die kenden is aan het wankelen door dreiging van landen als Rusland, Iran en Noord-Korea. Bovendien woeden er nu op zoveel verschillende plaatsen gruwelijke oorlogen, en in steeds meer gebieden wordt de democratie van binnenuit uitgehold. Ergens ben ik dus blij met Ruttes waarschuwing; soms lijkt het alsof we ons in Nederland onkwetsbaar wanen. We zijn na tachtig jaar zó gewend geraakt aan de vanzelfsprekendheid van vrede, dat we ons nauwelijks kunnen voorstellen dat het ooit weer anders zou kunnen zijn. In werkelijkheid is het natuurlijk toch niet totaal ondenkbaar. Daarom maken Ruttes woorden me ook waakzaam. Gealarmeerd. Te gealarmeerd misschien.
Max bladert nog steeds rustig door zijn boek, maar mijn fantasie neemt een loopje met me. Ik denk niet alleen aan Max. Het gaat ook om zijn broertje, die nu nog in mijn buik zit, maar hopelijk over een aantal maanden op deze wereld verschijnt. Het frustreert me dat ik als moeder niet weet óf en hóe ik mijn kinderen kan beschermen tegen de dingen die nog komen gaan. Wat als de militaire dienstplicht weer wordt ingevoerd en mijn jongens over een jaar of achttien naar het front in Moskou, Teheran of Pyongyang worden gestuurd? Wat als ze daar moeten vechten? Wat als hun kameraden sneuvelen? Wat ALS...
Ja wat? als van haar twee jonge kinderen straks, zodra ze zestien zijn, zoals de Amerikanen van Oekraïense jongeren hebben geeist, naar het 'front' nabij Pyongyang worden gestuurd. De hoofdstad van Noord Korea die tijdens de Korea-oorlog 1950-1953 met de grond werd gelijk gemaakt, en de gebroeders Van Weezel als oorlogsmisdadigers te boek zullen staan voor het verwoesten van de geheel verbouwde nieuwe hoofdstad? Of als die Derde Wereldoorlog daar uitbreekt, zij het risico lopen een kernoorlog radioactief zullen worden besmet, en een gruwelijk langzame dood te wachten staat. Wat als haar zoons pas op dát moment beseffen dat hun moeder, Natascha van Weezel ineens inziet dat ook zij medeverantwoordelijk was voor de zinloze dood van haar twee zoons, en dat ook zij blaam treft voor de steeds meer stijgende oorlogswinsten van de American Military-Industrial Complex, de biljoenen opslokkende God van de Amerikanen en de Joods-Israeli's miljardairs die door elke oorlog nog rijker worden. Tijdens zijn afscheidsrede in 1961 vreesde president Dwight Eisenhower hoe zijn land ten onder zou gaan aan de onbeheersbare drift te heersen over de hele wereld. Waarom is dit voor moeder Natascha van Weezel dit zo moeilijk te begrijpen? Waar komt die doodsdrift vandaan? De holocaust, wellicht, die zij als derde generatie na 1945 zich heeft toegeëigend en waar zij, ironisch genoeg, enige macht van spreken heeft ontleend?

Most Young People Have No Interest in Ridiculous “Ukraine Language”
“Ukrainian” is a creole language. Specifically, it is Russia mixed with Polish. Its use was very limited before the US went into the Ukraine in 2014. Notably, Vladimir Zelensky could not speak it before he ran for president.
Forcing people to speak this goofy bastard poor people gibberish would be like if in the Civil War, the generals of the South started forcing everyone to speak French creole, even though none of the generals themselves spoke the language before the war broke out.

Ukraine is facing a slowdown in carrying out its language policy, Taras Kremen, the country’s language commissioner, has said. Posting on his official website, Kremen raised concerns about the declining use of the Ukrainian language in public life, especially among the younger generation.
