Early on July 20, positions of the Syrian Army came under shelling by militants in the villages of Furu, Bahsa and Beit Hassno in the southern part of the Idlib de-escalation zone. In response, government forces struck positions of Hayat Tahrir al-Sam near Kansafra and surrounding areas.

Local tensions increased just a few days after a key infrastructure object of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in Idlib became the target of a drone attack. On July 18, three suicide drones hit facilities of the Watad Petroleum Company in the town of Saramada. This company is controlled by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) and has a monopoly on the fuel market in Greater Idlib. It is deeply involved in oil trafficking with nearby Turkish-occupied areas in northern Aleppo and responsible for the illegal import of fuel from Turkey. A notable part of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s revenue is generated by Watad.

The HTS news agency Iba’a confirmed that the drones struck the headquarters of the company as well as its fuel market. However, the agency claimed that the strikes didn’t result in any human or material losses.

A photo of one of the drones made before the attack shows an X-shaped wing design similar to that of the Hero family of loitering munitions produced by Israel’s UVision. Syrian sources speculate that this drone may be a Russian, Syrian or Iranian reverse-engineered copy of the Israeli munition. At the same time, it is likely that the strike was conducted by Turkey itself, which is silently working to undermine the dominance of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham in the region.

Earlier in July, Idlib militants attacked a joint Turkish-Russian patrol on the M4 highway with a detonated car driven by a suicide bomber. It is hard to believe that such an attack could be possible without the coordination with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham that controls the frontline in that area. So, Ankara may opt to employ some additional measures to demonstrate its dissatisfaction with such actions of its al-Qaeda partners, that Turkish state media like to call ‘moderate rebels’.

On July 19, an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in the Turkish-occupied town of Afrin in northern Aleppo. The IED targeted a vehicle of the Sham Corps militant group wounding at least 3 of its members, including a field commander. On the same day, a car bomb attack in the town of Sajjo reportedly killed 5 people and injured dozens of others. Turkish sources often blamed Kurdish rebels for these attacks. However, ISIS cells are also quite active in the Turkish-controlled part of Syria.

On July 16, a quadcopter armed with an explosive charge targeted a group of Russian and Syrian service members in the vicinity of the town of al-Darbasiyah in northeastern Syria. Three service members of the Russian Military Police and three Syrian personnel were injured. According to reports, the attack took place during a meeting at a local coordination post, which was initiated due to the increase of ceasefire violations by Turkish-led forces on the contact line in northeastern Syria.

Even if this attack was not initiated by Turkish forces themselves, but was a local initiative of Turkish proxies, such incidents do not contribute to the stability in Syria’s northeast. The regular ceasefire violations and attacks create an explosive situation on the frontline, which runs the risk of turning into an open military confrontation between the Syrian Army and Turkish forces. The areas with a strong Turkish military presence and the US-controlled zone of al-Tanf remain the main sources of tensions and instability in Syria.

The husband and son of federal Judge Esther Salas were shot by a man who showed up at their New Jersey door in a FedEx uniform, according to New Jersey Globe and the Associated press.

Daniel Anderl, 20, the judge’s son, who is a student at Catholic University, is dead, the news site reported. Her husband, Mark Anderl, is in critical but stable condition; the judge was not injured because she was in the basement at the time of the shooting, NBC New York reported.

“The FBI is investigating a shooting that occurred at the home of Judge Ester (sic) Salas in North Brunswick Township, New Jersey earlier this evening, July 19. We’re looking for one subject & ask that anyone who thinks they may have relevant information call us at 1-973-792-3001,” wrote FBI Newark.

News 4 New York reported that the gunman showed up at the judge’s home in North Brunswick around 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 19. It’s not clear whether the gunman was posing as a FedEx driver or actually was one. “We are aware of the media reports and are fully cooperating with investigating authorities,” a FedEx spokesman told CNN.

The television station reported that the judge’s husband answered the door and was shot “multiple times.” The son came to see what was going on and was also shot, that report said. However, there are conflicting reports about who opened the door first, father or son.

ABC News reported that “the judge’s son opened the door to the family’s North Brunswick home and was immediately shot,” quoting North Brunswick Mayor Francis “Mac” Womack as saying that Daniel Anderl was “shot through the heart.” He’s a Catholic University freshman.

CNN reported that Daniel opened the door with his father “right behind” and they were met with a “hail of gunfire.”

The motive and suspect are not yet clear. The suspect is at large. New Jersey Globe reported that the judge had been the target of threats but didn’t specify them.

Deutsche Bank AG is being accused of misleading investors “about anti-money-laundering deficiencies,” including not properly monitoring high-risk customers, among them the financier Jeffrey Epstein, who died in a Manhattan jail cell while awaiting sex offense charges.

Epstein’s ties to high-profile figures like Prince Andrew and the manner in which he died have caused some to question whether his death was murder instead of suicide. Authorities have given no indication that the motive for the Anderl shootings is tied into any of the judge’s cases, however.

The case was filed “on July 15, 2020, and has been assigned to Judge Esther Salas,” according to Globe News Wire. Bloomberg Law also reported that the case was assigned to Judge Salas. See the docket entry here.

Jeffrey Epstein – the Israeli Spy

Last year, one of the most high-profile Israeli spy network in the US was brought down by American intelligence. This secret high-society elite group was recently exposed on the global stage with the arrest of the sex-trafficking kingpin Jeffrey Epstein.

Although, Epstein is portrayed as just another billionaire pedophile, he was actually a high-class Israeli spy. He used perverted sexual desires as a cover to corrupt and infiltrate higher echelons of power in government and businesses including in India (will be covered in the next part). This is the source of political sex-scandals and video-tapes which surface now and then when someone refuses to obey orders.

Jeffrey Epstein was arrested again on July 6, 2019, on federal charges for the sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. He died in his jail cell on August 10, 2019. The medical examiner ruled the death a suicide, although Epstein’s lawyers have disputed the ruling along with huge public skepticism about the true cause of his death.

According to hedge-funders, “Given this puzzling set of data points, the hedge-fund managers leaned toward the theory that Epstein was running a blackmail scheme under cover of a hedge fund.”

The seed-money for the hedge-fund came from a guy called Leslie Wexner, the founder of Victoria’s Secret. It is said back in the 80s, a billion dollars exchanged hands and a financial firm was setup called J. Epstein & Co, whose only publicly known client is Wexner. Victoria’s Secret was used to recruit underage girls for Epstein’s operation.

The purpose of J Epstein & Company was to facilitate Jeffrey Epstein’s penetration of high-profile elite society and trap the victims by secretly video recording them for the “purpose of blackmail”. Victims included, the likes of Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew.

Hacked emails previously published by WikiLeaks show members of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign staff routinely monitored the news media for associations between Bill Clinton and Jeffrey Epstein.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak himself was spotted in 2016, hiding his face as he entered convicted Jeffrey Epstein‘s Manhattan townhouse. Barak received millions of dollars from Epstein for his company Carbyne.

The Little Black Book

All of Jeffrey Epstein’s high-profile clients maintained by his partner Ghislaine Maxwell, now arrested by the FBI are contained in a Little Black Book which include Mike Bloomberg, Richard Branson, top US politicians, British Royals like Prince Charles, the Rothschilds, George Soros and the Queen of England herself.

It was reported that Ghislaine Maxwell sat on the Buckingham Palace throne during a private tour of the palace organised by Prince Andrew for former US president Bill Clinton. A photo obtained by the Telegraph appears to show Ghislaine Maxwell reclining on the seat beside actor Keven Spacey in 2002.

Ghislaine Maxwell was also very close to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. The relationship between Imran Khan and the Rothschilds was exposed in a controversial memoir written by none other than his now former wife, Reham Khan.

Henry Kissinger is reported in the book to have categorically told the Pakistani foreign minister Sahabzada Yaqub Khan to “Look after our Boy”. When Sahabzada asked who their boy was, the answer he received was “Imran Khan”.

A similar intelligence operation was run in Syria by another Israeli spy Eli Cohen, exactly along the lines of the American op. Eli was deployed in Syria in the early 60s where he infiltrated the Syrian political and military hierarchy and became the chief adviser to the Minister of Defense, at the time supported by the Russians. The intelligence gathered by Cohen, who also met the same fate as Epstein led to the successful capture of Golan Heights by the Israeli military.

Is the U.S., preoccupied with a pandemic and a depression that medical crisis created, prepared for a collision with China over Beijing’s claims to the rocks, reefs and resources of the South China Sea?

For that is what Mike Pompeo appeared to threaten this week.

“The world will not allow Beijing to treat the South China Sea as its maritime empire,” thundered the secretary of state.

“America stands with our Southeast Asian allies and partners in protecting their sovereign rights to offshore resources … and (we) reject any push to impose ‘might makes right’ in the South China Sea.”

Thus did Pompeo put Beijing on notice that the U.S. does not recognize its claim to 90% of the South China Sea or to any exclusive Chinese right to its fishing grounds or oil and gas resources.

Rather, in a policy shift, the U.S. now recognizes the rival claims of Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei and the Philippines.

To signal the seriousness of Pompeo’s stand, the U.S. sent the USS Ronald Reagan and USS Nimitz carrier battle groups through the South China Sea. And, this week, the guided-missile destroyer USS Ralph Johnson sailed close by the Spratly Islands.

But what do Mike Pompeo’s tough words truly mean?

While we have recognized the claims of the other littoral states of the South China Sea, does Pompeo mean America will use its naval power to defend their claims should China use force against the vessels of those five nations?

Does it mean that if Manila, our lone treaty ally in these disputes, uses force to reclaim what we see as its lawful rights in the South China Sea, the U.S. Navy will fight the Chinese navy to validate Manila’s claims?

Has Pompeo drawn a red line, which Beijing has been told not to cross at risk of war with the United States?

If so, does anyone in Washington think the Chinese are going to give up their claims to the entire South China Sea or retreat from reasserting those claims because the U.S. now rejects them?

Consider what happened to the people of Hong Kong when they thought they had the world’s democracies at their back.

For a year, they marched and protested for greater political freedom with some believing they might win independence.

But when Beijing had had enough, it trashed the Basic Law under which Hong Kong had been ceded back to China and began a crackdown.

The democracies protested and imposed economic sanctions. But the bottom line is that Hong Kong’s people not only failed to enlarge the sphere of freedom they had, but also they are losing much of what they had.

The Americans, seeing Hong Kong being absorbed into China, are now canceling the special economic privileges we had accorded the city, as the British offer millions of visas to Hong Kong’s dissidents who fear what Beijing has in store for them.

In June, Pompeo also charged Beijing with human rights atrocities in Xinjiang: “The world received disturbing reports today that the Chinese Communist Party is using forced sterilization, forced abortion, and coercive family planning against Uyghurs and other minorities in Xinjiang, as part of a continuing campaign of repression.”

These reports, said Pompeo, “are sadly consistent with decades of CCP practices that demonstrate an utter disregard for the sanctity of human life and basic human dignity.”

China has rejected U.S. protests of its treatment of Uighurs and Kazakhs and of its handling of Hong Kong as interference in its internal affairs and none of America’s business.

As for the South China Sea, China dismissively replied, the U.S. seems to be “throwing its weight around in every sea of the world.”

These American warnings, and Beijing’s response, call to mind the darker days of the Cold War.

So, again, the question: Is America prepared for a naval clash in the South China Sea if Beijing continues to occupy and fortify islets and reefs she claims as her own? Are we prepared for a Cold War II — with China?

While China lacks the strategic arsenal the USSR had in the latter years of the Cold War, economically, technologically and industrially, China is a far greater power than Soviet Russia ever was. And China’s population is four times as large.

Can we, should we, begin to assemble a system of alliances similar to what we had during the Cold War — with NATO in Europe and Asian security pacts with Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand? Should we adopt a policy of containment of Communist China, which, says Pompeo, is an expansionist and “imperialist” power?

Should we start issuing war guarantees to China’s neighbors? Should we start putting down red lines China will not be allowed to cross?

Before we plunged into our half dozen Middle East wars, we didn’t think through where those would end. Have we considered where all our belated bellicosity toward Beijing must invariably lead, and how this all ends?

Hoe Bart Schut zich stukbeet op Thierry Baudet

Twee weken geleden nam de ‘adjunct-hoofdredacteur’ van het Nieuw Israëlitisch Weekblad, Bart Schut in een column met het gebruikelijke pathos afscheid van Thierry Baudet en zijn Forum voor Democratie. Verwijzend naar een reeks van associaties van de partij met antisemieten, extreemrechtse racisten, Holocaust-ontkenners en incidenten laat Schut weten vanwege de ‘bruine geur van extreemrechts boven het FvD’, niet meer op FvD te zullen stemmen, wat hij bij de Provinciale Statenverkiezingen van 2019 nog had gedaan.

Dat laatste is uiteraard geen verrassing. Bart ‘liever aids dan moslim’ Schut is met zijn moslim-, allochtonen- en linkshaat die hij dagelijks op Twitter spuit en zijn #CancelCulture-gerichte laster, een FvD-stemmer par excellence. Nog belangrijker echter is dat FvD als onvoorwaardelijke ‘vriend van Israël’ met haar groei de laatste jaren een belangrijk onderdeel van de Nederlandse Israël-lobby is geworden. En voor Bart Schut, die als zzp-er wordt ingehuurd door de hoofredacteur van het Nieuw Israëlitisch Weekblad, Israël-lobbyiste Esther Voet, is de houding ten opzichte van Israël net als voor zijn bazin de belangrijkste bepalende factor voor zijn gedrag in de media.

Rijkelijk laat

Het is in deze zin niet verwonderlijk dat Schut als een NSB-er na Dolle Dinsdag in het verzet gaat. Want de ‘bruine geur van extreem rechts’ heeft natuurlijk van het begin af aan boven Baudet en FvD gehangen. In 2014 was Baudet bijvoorbeeld al gastspreker op de extreemrechtse Vlaamse ‘IJzerwake’. Hetzelfde jaar dat Bart Schut, die toen nog niet voor Esther Voet werkte, op Joop.nl schreef dat Voet en de Israël-lobby ‘op moesten flikkeren met hun antisemitisme’, maar dat terzijde. Baudet bleef echter vanaf 2014 wel zijn bruinrechtse stank consequent en structureel verspreiden. 

Nu zullen Baudets openlijk geuite wens voor een dominant blank Europa en zijn strijd tegen de ‘homeopathische verdunning van het Nederlandse volk’ voor Schut naar zoete madeliefjes hebben geroken, het is vooral Baudets voortdurende associatie met antisemitisme, waarvan Schut slechts een summiere en rammelende opsomming geeft in zijn column, die Schut er toe gezet hebben – nu FvD electoraal in een neerwaartse spiraal is terechtgekomen en de ene na de andere bekende FvD-er het zinkende schip verlaat – afscheid te nemen van Baudet. Schut is immers de grootste en meest walgelijke antisemitisme-lasteraar in de Nederlandse media. Het werd nu dus echt tijd om afscheid te nemen van Baudet, om de geloofwaardigheid te redden die Schut van zichzelf nog denkt te hebben. Een onmogelijke opdracht die in Schuts gezicht zou ontploffen.

Antisemitisme-laster

De lijst van personen en organisaties, die door Bart Schut op Twitter en in zijn stukken voor NIW onterecht als antisemitisch of ‘Jodenhaters’ zijn belasterd sinds hij voor Esther Voet werkt, is schier oneindig. Theoloog Stefan Paas was het laatste slachtoffer maar ook vrijwel alle Nederlandse media behalve NIW, de Amsterdamse politie, Groenlinks, het ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, De PvdA, alle organisaties die opkomen voor Palestijnse rechten, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Black Lives Matter, Bij1, ex-collega Dirk Jan van Baar en nog velen anderen zijn door Schut als antisemitisch bestempeld. Schut richt deze vorm van lasterlijke intimidatie voornamelijk richting personen die kritisch zijn over het beleid van de staat Israël. Daarnaast misbruikt Schut de beschuldiging van antisemitisme voornamelijk als stok om moslims mee te slaan of gewoon uit persoonlijke kinnesinne.

Thierry Baudet, met zijn ‘perfide internationale elites’, omvolkingstheorieën rond George Soros, ‘Cultuurmarxisme’, antisemitische hondenfluitjes, bedoeld voor zijn aantoonbaar deels antisemitische achterban en zijn openlijke bewondering voor allerlei antisemieten, bleef echter al die jaren verschoond van beschuldigingen van antisemitisme door Schut. Sterker nog, Schut, zijn bazin Esther Voet en het NIW hebben de afgelopen jaren een wezenlijke bijdrage geleverd aan het salonfähig maken van Baudet en het FvD. In 2018 stapten Schut en Voet nog aan boord van Baudets ‘Renaissancevloot’ voor een gezellige borrelvaart door Amsterdam. Na de eclatante zege van het FvD in de Provinciale Statenverkiezingen van 2019, waarin Schut dus op FvD stemde, boden Voet en Schut hun ex-collega, vriendin en aanstaande FvD-senator Annabel Nanninga de gelegenheid om op twee volle pagina’s in het NIW haar antisemitische getreiter op Twitter, uit de tijd dat ze nog opiniemaker was, goed te praten.

Hypocrisie

Ondanks de stuitende hypocrisie ervan is de steun van Voet en Schut voor het FvD natuurlijk prima te verklaren. Niet voor niets werd het FvD in 2018 verreweg de grootste partij in de door het CIDI georganiseerde schaduwverkiezingen FvD. De achterban van het FvD zit voor een niet onaanzienlijk deel ook onder de abonnees en het lezerspubliek van het NIW en het extreemrechtse klapvee van Voet en Schut op Twitter. Dát is de reden waarom Bart Schut Baudet in zijn column met fluwelen handschoentjes aanpakt en zijn gebruikelijke compulsieve ‘Jodenhater’-gescheld en smerige frames achterwege laat.

En dat is natuurlijk óók de reden waarom de rechtsextremistische kast-antisemiet Baudet van hoofdredacteur Esther Voet het privilege kreeg om met een gastcolumn in NIW te reageren op de column van Bart Schut. Met de publicatie van de column van Baudet in NIW speelde Voet op Twitter hypocriet en besmuikt ‘de onafhankelijke journalist’ en de ‘hoor en wederhoor’-diva, terwijl algemeen bekend is dat reageren in NIW op de structurele laster en stemmingmakerij voor de gebruikelijk slachtoffers van NIW vrijwel onmogelijk is. Vorig jaar werd NIW hierom nog berispt door de Raad voor Journalistiek, nadat Schut Denk Amsterdam voor ‘jodenhaters’ had uitgemaakt in een lasterlijke column die gericht was tegen de Israël-kritische organisatie The Rights Forum. De RvJ oordeelde dat de reactie en klacht van DENK Amsterdam onzorgvuldig door het NIW was behandeld.

Schut door het rechtse slijk

In feite gooide Esther Voet als hoofdredacteur van het NIW haar afhankelijke hulpje Bart Schut voor het eerst onder de bus, door Thierry Baudet het privilege van een gastcolumn te verlenen. Baudet zette Schut in zijn columnterecht met veel dedain weg als ongeïnformeerd, ‘kwaadwillend’, ‘gebruik makend van antisemitische nazipropaganda-tactieken’ en een ‘nuttige idioot’. Het rammelende en hypocriete stukje van Schut was ook uitsluitend gebaseerd op guilt by association, dus het werd Baudet ook wel erg makkelijk gemaakt.

Bart Schut werd in zijn eigen NIW compleet voor lul gezet door Thierry Baudet, die op deze manier nog maar eens eenvoudig de structurele zweem van antisemitisme rond zijn persoon en zijn partij voor de juiste doelgroep weg kon wuiven. En terwijl Esther Voet op Twitter de complimentjes voor haar ‘onafhankelijkheid’ in ontvangst nam, werd haar hulpje en binnenkort onbruikbare idioot Bart Schut ongenadig door het extreemrechtse twitterslijk gehaald. De plek waar Schuts laatste restje geloofwaardigheid de laatste tijd nog wel wat door pruttelde, maar afgelopen weekend terecht zijn Waterloo vond.

Jan Tervoort is een tamelijk bekende stadsgids voor toeristen in Amsterdam, gelauwerd vanwege zijn historische kennis. Hij is ook een zeer actief criticus van het Israëlische Palestijnenbeleid. Eerder dit jaar was hij zelf mikpunt van een mediahetze door de Israëllobby, waarna hij zijn vaste column op de site The Rights Forum kwijtraakte.
