DIME is in wezen net zo gevaarlijk als de impact van verarmd uraniumhoudende munitie. Het schadelijke effect van verarmd uranium zit 'm in de stofdeeltjes, en mogelijk splinters die in het lichaam achterblijven. De giftigheid van verarmd uranium wordt vergeleken met dat van nikkel in studies van het Pentagon en andere studies. En nikkel is een erkend carcinogeen. Dezelfde onderzoekers van het Pentagon (Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute) hebben ook laten zien dat wolfraam ook kankerverwekkend is. Bij normale wolfraamhoudende munitie speelt dit niet zo een rol, omdat wolfraam niet de neiging heeft om te aeroliseren in kleine stofdeeltjes, zoals bij veramd uranium het geval is. Maar dat is bij DIME anders: de slachtoffers krijgen wolfraamdeeltjes in hun lichaam. Met alle gevolgen van dien, vergelijkbaar met wat er in Irak gaande is als gevolg van uraniumbesmetting.
