Borrell says EU is in 'war mode'
European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stressed on Sunday that the European Union is in a "war mode" with regard to the Ukrainian conflict and that he supports the notion for the EU to procure ammunition to supply it to Kiev forces.
While answering questions at the Munich Security Conference panel, the high representative underscored that there are no ammunition stocks as there was no imminent conflict in the continent, but that it is now part of European reality. "We are in war mode, urgent war mode...So react quickly, we have the means and tools to do it," he stated.
While agreeing with Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas that NATO is the only security guarantee that is really functioning, Borrell noted that Germany, France, and Poland have increased their military spending and that the continent needs to rearm "within and without"
