Reflections on the season of peace, Christmas 2023
by Jim Miles

As part of this world I am ashamed…but no, ashamed is not the right word, more of a cold anger against the perpetrators of such violence, the politicians, manufacturers, and financiers who support mass destruction, genocide, death, and ethnic cleansing for their own profit and power. It goes beyond words yet words at the moment are all I have.

As a private citizen, the options for suing an intelligence agency are few and far between. The US Central Intelligence Agency, as with other members of the secret club, pour scorn on such efforts. To a degree, such a dismissive sentiment is understandable: Why sue an agency for its bread-and-butter task, which is surveillance? This matter has cropped up in the US courts in what has become an international affair, namely, the case of WikiLeaks founder and publisher, Julian Assange.

Conflict gold arrives from Africa, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Libya, Sudan and Kenya. without strict regulations and checks at various airports in Dubai. In 2019 the UAE was the second largest trading partner of Turkey and the trade has been based on gold, despite the fact that neither country is a gold producer

It does not speak well of government’s handling of constitutional-legal issues. PM’s “expressed clear and unequivocal view in favour
of protecting civil liberties” in Court, sits uneasily with BNS-BNSS-BS passed in the apex legislature of the “Mother of Democracy” without opposition debate. The Supreme Court, India’s last bastion for democracy and civil liberties, will face one of the greatest tests in its history when the constitutionality of BNS-BNSS-BS is challenged, even while IPC-124A remains unadjudicated.
