Dear Stan,
It is now twice in six months that we are writing a note of love and connection in the wake of a shooting in a synagogue. This is outrageous and unacceptable.
As we mourn the loss of Lori Gilbert-Kaye, we know her memory will be a blessing to all that knew her and all awakened by her murder. We also extend our love to those traumatized by this violence and hope they each find the support and healing they need to recover.
Of course we know that the violence of white nationalism is not isolated to Jewish houses of worship. The shooter this weekend also confessed to arson at a mosque in Escondido, CA and at that attack, he spray-painted a message about the New Zealand mosque massacre.
Today and always we stand in unwavering solidarity with all those targeted by white nationalism. We reaffirm our enduring commitment to resist it boldly at the ballots, in the streets, in courts, in our homes, and in our sanctuaries.
In the coming weeks, we’ll be offering some ideas about how we can build more safety together as we take on the politicians and news personalities who are trying to hijack our grief and direct it towards their own hateful agendas.
Yours,
Rabbi Alissa Wise
