That Dystopian Climate Change Future Has Arrived "Saudi Arabia is a prime example of how overuse of resources can have detrimental effects. The desert springs are fed by a massive aquifer system that predates recorded history. A 2004 report showed that wealthy farmers had been draining the aquifers for three decades. At the time, Saudi Arabia was the leading exporter of wheat in the region. Three years ago the Saudi government announced that 2016 would be its last wheat harvest and that it would be relying heavily on imported food from other nations to feed its millions of people."
