WATCH: Jon Stewart Mocks Leaders of Countries at Paris March Who Jail (and Flog) Journalists
January 13, 2015
A lot of the world leaders who marched in Paris claiming they are Charlie really aren't Charlie, Jon Stewart pointed out in Monday night's show. Among the participants in the giant march for freedom of the press and against terror: "Journalist-punishing Russia, journalist- jailing Turkey, Palestinian cartoonist-punishing Israel, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, a little out of breath from flogging a blogger," the late-night comedian said.
Amongst the world leaders marching? No one from the United States. Attorney General Eric Holder was in Paris, but skipped the march, presumably taking advantage of all the really short lines for tourist attractions, Stewart supposed. (Cut to Holder taking a selfie with the Mona Lisa.)
Stewart also enjoyed a little fun with the symbol of freedom of expression that has emerged from the Charlie Hebdo massacre: the humble pencil.
