Asymmetric Media Coverage in the
Wake of the Jerusalem Killings
Over the last several days the U.S. media has been full of lurid outrage at the killings of five Israeli worshippers at a synagogue in West Jerusalem. The attacks are unquestionably deserving of moral condemnation. But they cannot be understood outside the context of Israel’s relentless brutality against Palestinians. In Israel’s three attacks on Gaza over the past six years, some 3,700 Palestinians have perished; in these same actions, 90 Israelis died. And, just during Operation Cast Lead in 2008-9, Israel destroyed 30 mosques and damaged 15 more. In one notorious instance, a deliberate Israeli attack on a mosque killed at least 15 Gazan worshippers. The American media has been much less inclined to report such atrocities. To obtain a comprehensive picture of what is happening in the Israel-Palestine conflict, the work of Norman G. Finkelstein has been vital. If you would like to read the concluding chapter of his new book, Method and Madness, which focuses on the fallout from Israel’s attack on Gaza this past summer, please send a blank email to methodandmadness@orbooks.com and we will be happy to send it to you.

Schaamteloze propaganda van NPO Radio 1, ik neem aan van Salomon Bouwman, met deze bewering: "Israël geteisterd door een nieuwe golf Palestijnse aanslagen en Israëlische vergeldingen."
