Ukraine's NATO membership was 404 at Vilnius. No schedule, no commitment, no pathway, just the vague possibility of a future conditional invite.
The reason: the United States already knows its proxy army has failed, the only unknown is the scale of the failure. There may not be a functioning Ukraine left to invite.
NATO can't fast-track Ukraine's membership while it's in a state of conflict because that would obligate the alliance to defend it. That means fighting Russia directly and NATO doesn't want that obligation. It knows that it can't take Russia head on and that it would be extremely costly if it tried.
Stoltenberg basically said the quiet part out loud: if Ukraine doesn't win on the battlefield then NATO membership is a non-issue.
