Zo opende Amerika onverwachts de aanval op Syrië, een bondgenoot van Rusland, dat ervan verdacht wordt nog maar eens chemische wapens te hebben ingezet tegen eigen burgers. Het Amerikaans buitenlands beleid staat door de aanval volledig op zijn kop. Maakt Trump een draai naar een 'gewoon' presidentschap, vraagt correspondent Guus Valk zich af.'
Wat valt hier op? Wel, dat in de visie van van NRC Handelsblad 'gewoon' presidentschap bestaat uit het voeren van agressieoorlogen. Ik had het niet beter kunnen formuleren. Maar hoe gewoon is NRC's 'gewoon'? Ik weet dat de NRC-redactie 'de grondslag van het Atlantisch bondgenootschap' door dik en dun steunt, omdat 'wij' in Europa 'niet gediend zijn met het ontstaan van machtsvacua,' maar dat de krant ervan uitgaat dat een illegale agressieoorlog 'gewoon' blijft, tenminste wanneer een Amerikaanse president daartoe opdracht geeft, is toch weer een stapje verder. Het toont het ontzag van mijn mainstream-collega's voor massaal proleten geweld. Dit betekent dat ze bij die krant 'gewoon' fascisten zijn.

These organisations are known as the liberal media. They present themselves as enlightened, progressive tribunes of the moral zeitgeist. They are anti-racist, pro-feminist and pro-LGBT.
And they love war.
While they speak up for feminism, they support rapacious wars that deny the rights of countless women, including the right to life.
