De Israelische Terreur 177

De Amerikaan Mazin Qumsiyeh schrijft:

'Ronnie Kasrils, minister for intelligence in the South African government
(and who is Jewish) once wrote "The Palestinian minority in Israel has for
decades been denied basic equality in health, education, housing and land
possession, solely because it is not Jewish. The fact that this minority is
allowed to vote hardly redresses the rampant injustice in all other basic
human rights. They are excluded from the very definition of the 'Jewish
state', and have virtually no influence on the laws, or political, social
and economic policies. Hence, their similarity to the black South Africans
[under apartheid]." (The Guardian, 25 May 2005)

And these are the lucky ones. The Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza
basically live in a new kind of large concentration camps.

Barbara Tuchman wrote in The March of Folly:

“Wooden-headedness, the source of self-deception, is a factor that plays a
remarkably large role in government. It consists in assessing a situation in
terms of preconceived fixed notions while ignoring or rejecting any contrary
signs. It is acting according to wish while not allowing oneself to be
deflected by the facts. It is epitomized in a historian's statement about
Phillip II of Spain, the surpassing wooden-head of all sovereigns: No
experience of the failure of his policy could shake his belief in its
essential excellence"

Can there be any better description of the actions of Sheldon, Bush, Olmert,
and virtually the entire political establishment in Israel and America who
support Israeli apartheid?

But that again is the diagnosis which we should spend less time on.
Preventive medicine and when afflicted, prognosis and therapy is what we
need. That requires rethinking our own actions and responsibilities. How
much are we willing to get uncomfortable/change our routine in life? Or will
most of us remain passive consumers (of products and of propaganda).

Intussen spreekt nu ook het verlichte, pragmatische deel van de Nederlandse diplomaten zich publiekelijk uit, zoals blijkt uit een stuk in Trouw:

'Nederland kan vredesplan Arabische Liga steunen (opinie)
D.A.V.E. Ader, was tot voor kort Nederlands ambassadeur in Noorwegen, en eerder tijdelijk zaakgelastigde in Beiroet.

Hoog tijd om het Midden-Oostenbeleid te herzien. Er zijn kansen op vrede tussen Israël en de Palestijnen... Vrede is verder weg dan ooit door eenzijdige druk op de zwakste, meest benadeelde partij. Het beleid is gebaseerd op de ondeugdelijke premisse dat Palestijns terrorisme het probleem zou zijn, in plaats van agressief Israëlisch expansionisme.'

Let u ook eens op de fanatieke reacties die het voorstel van de Nederlandse diplomaat oproepen bij de pro-Israel achterban van Trouw.

Onlangs schreef Jaap Meijers in Trouw:

'Internet / Boze schreeuwers worden zichtbaarder

Sommige mensen zou ik graag willen beknotten in hun vrijheid van meningsuiting… wat vervelend is, zijn de mensen die de publieke arena betreden en er vervolgens een zooitje van maken.'

Ik kan me er wel iets bij voorstellen wanneer ik de reacties van de Trouw achterban lees. En dat terwijl hier nog de ergste eruit gefilterd zijn. 'Elke dag kunnen bezoekers van trouw.nl reageren op een aantal artikelen uit de krant. Die reacties worden beoordeeld door de internetredactie. Ze mogen niet te lang zijn, moeten inhoudelijk ingaan op het artikel en moeten enigszins iets toevoegen.' Aldus Meijers.

Leest u nu de reacties op het opiniestuk van oud-ambassadeur Ader en vraag uzelf af hoe die 'iets toevoegen.'
