Israel’s War Crimes in Gaza: A Chronicle

 

Israeli historian Professor Lee Mordechai has now published a major report entitled, Bearing Witness to the Israel-Gaza War, which carefully details war crimes committed by Israeli forces in Gaza.

This report is 124 pages long, and is bac ked up by more than 1400 footnotes, and as such, it is a comprehensive chronicle of war crimes and crimes against humanity. The report draws upon Israeli military records, videos, eyewitness accounts, most of which are by Israeli soldiers.

The report also affirms that what Israel is doing in Gaza is genocide, in that the Palestinian population is being systematically erased. Professor Mordecai also makes an important point: that “genocide” does not have need to have “death camps”—rather, it is the killing, wounding, abduction, torture and beating which entirely directed at a particular group of people.

The report points to horrendous atrocities, including the killing of children, humiliation and looting, and starvation as a military tactic against Palestinian civilians.

We have by now all seen videos made by Israeli soldiers celebrating over Palestinian corpses, or making a game of blowing up people’s houses, and worse. Professor Mordecai gives us the context of these crimes, and their implications.
