Voormalig premier Wim Kok, die in zijn tijd met Sharon te maken had, zal Nederland in Israël vertegenwoordigen. Ook PVV-leider Wilders zal aanwezig zijn.

Op Twitter zei hij: 'Vlieg vandaag naar Israël om daar morgen begrafenis en herdenking Ariel Sharon bij te wonen. Eervol daarbij te kunnen zijn.'

Hoe nu: 'eervol'? Volgens het woordenboek betekent 'eer': 'alles wat bijdraagt aan het gevoel dat iemand respect verdient.'

Verdient een man die volgens Israel zelf 'persoonlijk verantwoordelijk' was voor het vermoorden van 'vrouwen en kinderen' en duizenden andere slachtoffers, iemand die 'respect' verdient?

Geert Wilders is een nog grotere schooier dan ik dacht. De mensen die op hem stemmen zijn fascisten, er is geen ander woord voor.

Back on 18 September that same year, Loren Jenkins of The Washington Post and Karsten Tveit of Norwegian television and I had clambered over the piled corpses of Chatila - of raped and eviscerated women and their husbands and children and brothers - and Jenkins, knowing that the Isrealis had sat around the camps for two nights watching this filth, shrieked "Sharon!" in anger and rage. The subsequent Israeli Kahan commission of enquiry into this atrocity provided absolute proof that Israeli soldiers saw the massacre taking place. Ever afterwards, Israeli embassies around the world would claim that the commission held Sharon only indirectly responsible for the massacre. It was untrue. The last page of the official Israeli report held Sharon "personally responsible".
