CNN: Comey Acted on Russian Intel He Knew Was Fake

Former FBI Director James Comey knew that information relating to the probe of Hillary Clinton’s private email server was fake, and reportedly created by Russian intelligence, leading to his decision last summer to publicly announce the investigation over. The Washington Post had previously reported that Comey was likely duped into action by the false information, but CNN reported Friday that he was aware of its nature, according to “multiple officials with knowledge of the process.” He acted upon the fake intel, CNN noted, because “he feared that if it became public it would undermine the probe and the Justice Department itself.”
