G7 says ready to act to protect global energy supplies
The foreign ministers of the Group of Seven countries have voiced readiness to take necessary measures to support global energy supplies.
“We … express support to our partners in the region in the face of the unjustifiable attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its proxies,” the ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the United States, as well as the top EU diplomat, said in a statement.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the regime’s reckless attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, including energy infrastructure,” they said, reaffirming the importance of safeguarding maritime routes, including in the Strait of Hormuz.
IAEA reports ‘no abnormal radiation level’ after Dimona strike
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says it is aware of reports of a missile impact in the Israeli city of Dimona, adding that there are no indications of damage to the Negev nuclear research centre.
In a statement, the agency said information from regional states shows no abnormal radiation levels have been detected.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said the situation is being closely monitored, stressing that “maximum military restraint should be observed, in particular in the vicinity of nuclear facilities”.
It comes as an Iranian missile struck Dimona for a fifth time in 24 hours. The city, which is home to Israel’s nuclear facility, saw several impact sites, including a three-storey building, which collapsed. At least 39 people have been injured.

Iran adopts ‘eye-for-an-eye’ policy
In the war, Iran has been adopting an “eye-for-an-eye policy” to re-establish deterrence and recreate a new reality in the region that would guarantee a long-term ceasefire, says Abbas Aslani, a senior fellow at the Centre for Middle East Strategic Studies in Tehran.
“Tehran wants to reduce the gap between words and actions, meaning that it wants to walk the talk. Iran, this time, wants to make those threats credible to re-establish deterrence against any future attack coming against the country,” Aslani told Al Jazeera.
“Two sides are trying to create a new order whereby they can secure their long-term security interests. That’s why we’re seeing that Iran is engaging in that eye for an eye policy.”
The goal, he says, is not to impose a ceasefire, but to extract such a high cost to the US and Israel to establish a new security arrangement in the region and prevent future aggression against Iran.
His comments came after Iran struck Dimona, an Israeli town home to Israel’s nuclear programme, after Israel struck Iran’s Natanz nuclear site. On Thursday, Tehran targeted Qatar’s Ras Laffan gas facility after Israel struck its South Pars field.

Israel’s chief of staff says military to act as ‘buffer’ between Hezbollah and Israel
Israeli army’s chief of staff Eyal Zamir says Israel’s war on Lebanon aims to disarm Hezbollah, adding that “our forces will stand as a buffer between the enemy and the settlements”.
He said new plans have been approved for continued fighting under Northern Command, signalling an expansion of operations in southern Lebanon.
Zamir also linked the broader regional campaign to Hezbollah’s position, saying, “Our actions in Iran are weakening Hezbollah. In Iran’s service, Hezbollah is destroying Lebanon and dragging it into war.”
It comes as Israel continues to bombard southern Lebanon and Dahiyeh in Beirut, killing more than 1,000 people, including more than 100 children.
