'Niet de islam maar de westerse cultuur [is] superieur,' schrijft een zekere Amanda Kluveld in de Volkskrant. Dit is wat de Amerikaanse dichter Gary Snyder te melden heeft:
'An ethical life is one that is mindful, mannerly, and has style... Rudeness in thought or deed toward others, toward nature, reduces the chances of conviviality and interspecies communication, which are essential to physical and spiritual survival... Wastefulness and carelessness are caused by stinginess of spirit, an ungracious unwillingness to complete the gift-exchange transaction.'
Wijsheid is zoveel subtieler dan de verpolitiekte beweringen die ideologische opiniemakers via de commerciele massamedia verspreiden.
